Travel to a faraway island in the Caribbean to join the merry band of pirates on the slot from Just for the Win. Treasure Skyland will see you joining them on their medieval flying machine as they scour the tropical islands for their next plundering tour. A Feature Frame triggering a Feature Wheel and a bonus game can deliver wins of up to 1,000 times your bet.

Slot Details

Treasure Skyland is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 20 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols from left to right only. You can turn into a flying pirate on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 200 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 96.18%.

Visually, the game won’t set off any fireworks. JFTW usually surprises with decent graphics but on this occasion, they took a step back and when for the simple frameless game window with the pirates’ medieval flying machine passing over the tropical islands the gang is about to plunder of its treasures. The banana protagonists dominate on the reels while a Carribean soundtrack tries to keep things lively.

The pay symbols start at the low end with the card royals from 10 through to A, held on coloured coins and awarding 4x to 8x your stake for a single five of a kind. They are followed by three monkey pirates – the shipmate, the quartermaster and the female captain. Hit five on a line to win 10x to 17.5x your stake.

A treasure map marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, appearing on reels two, three and four only and substituting for all pay symbols. There is no scatter on this slot but a roaming ship wheel called Feature Frame, which will randomly move on each spin.

Treasure Skyland Slot Features

While the graphics didn’t set off the fireworks, you would expect that to happen in the gameplay considering the pirate theme. Well, it is a rather tame affair that centres on the roaming ship wheel. The win potential further emphasizes the unimpressive creation from JFTW, coming in at just 1,000 times your bet. Still, it can be somewhat entertaining to play, so let’s take a look at what is included in the gameplay

The mentioned Feature Frame will move to a random position on each spin and should you score a win with the frame being part of the combo as in the 4OAK Js example above, it will trigger the Feature Wheel. The reel set will be moved slightly to the right and a giant wheel appears with a range of modifiers and feature triggers. It will spin once to award one of the items on the wheel.

  • Multipliers: An x2, x3, or x4 multiplier is applied to the wins that triggered the wheel only.
  • Symbol Upgrades: One, two or three arrows will upgrade the pay symbols in view by 1, 2 or 3 levels respectively.
  • Win Extend: Increases the win on the triggering pay lines by adding one or two wilds for a 3OAK or one wild for a 4OAK.
  • Symbols to Wild: All winning symbols in the triggering win combos turn wild.

The fifth option on the wheel is a Pick Bonus Game with a top prize of 1,000x bet, which will see the reels being replaced with 15 palm trees. Initially, you’ll get five picks, each revealing cash prizes and occasionally +1 pick. The aim is to reach the top of the Prize Map on the right before you run out of picks. The last seven levels will award an additional 20x to 1,000x your total bet on top of the cash prize from your pick. The game ends when you have no picks left and all prizes are added before being paid in one amount.

Final Verdict

To be honest, this slot feels like a very shallow affair that is more like a snoozefest instead of a fiery pirate romp. The frame has extended periods where it just won’t land on a winning combo. With a hit rate of 1:5 spins for any win and the frame missing it a few times, you could be quickly up to 100 spins without seeing the ominous Feature Wheel being activated. All the while, your balance is slowly heading south and not to  Treasure Skyland. I can see the game delivering wins in the 50x to 150x range, but anything above that will be a tough endeavour.
