To be named sports betting supplier of the year at the EGR B2B awards for eight successive year is no easy feat in the crowded online betting and gaming market. OpenBet was founded in 1996, right at the beginnings of the internet age and offered its first sports betting platform in 1998. Headquartered in London, UK, they went on to become the world leading provider of sports betting platforms and content with over 750 employees and offices in several locations across the globe including Athens, Sydney, Singapore and Montreal.

Their platform is designed to allow users to bet and play in multiple languages and currencies across several products from sports betting and casino, including web, mobile devices and retail outlets. The list of clients reads like a “Who is Who” of betting and casino giants and includes Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Sky Betting and Gaming and William Hill in the UK, stretching as far as the Canadian lotteries BCLC and Loto-Quebec. To date, OpenBet has processed billions of betting and gaming transactions and set a new record at the 2017 Grand National, where it processed 68,000 peak bets-per-minute.

In 2016, the company was acquired by another industry giant, NYX Interactive, keeping the focus on sports betting but integrating more casino content, especially slot games. Just over a year later, NYX itself was acquired by Scientific Games, with both NYX and OpenBet becoming part of the newly created division SG Digital to cater for the fast-growing online betting and gaming world.

To offer their casino games, OpenBet applied and received licenses from the UK Gambling Commission and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, giving them access to a large number of regulated markets.

Online slots were not part of their original product line in the late 90s as they were focused on sports betting. However, by the turn of the century OpenBet started to build a more comprehensive platform that included front and back office of a bookmaker or casino operation as well as an extended variety of content that now included casino games. While they did not produce their own slots at the beginning, they offered game providers to host their slots on the platform. Only years later did OpenBet start developing online slots in-house. Their most popular titles to date are Cash Machine, Jungle Bucks and the games from the Chain Reactors slot series.
