Get ready for an encounter with mighty deities on the slot from Play’n GO. Dawn of Egypt is taking you on a high-volatility reel ride through ancient mythology where you will come face to face with the cat goddess Bastet and the eagle god Horus. Wild substitutions, the Wheel of Gods that will grant you entry to the free spins round with symbol upgrades and Pyramid Spins that can be retriggered indefinitely can lead to wins of up to 5,000 times your bet.

Slot Details

Dawn of Egypt is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 10 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can delve into Egyptian mythology on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has medium to high volatility (7/10) with a default RTP of 96.23%. Some operators might offer the game with lower RTP settings of 94.19% or even just 91.19%, always check the help files to find out which version you will be playing.

Loading the game will take you to the entrance of a pyramid with a game window flanked by two giant Horus statues placed on pedestals with ancient hieroglyphs and overlooking the action on the reels. The cat goddess Bastet and the eagle god Horus are the dominant characters in the gameplay while various mythological symbols add to the authentic execution of the theme.

The pay symbols start at the low end with beautifully crafted card royals from J through to A, awarding across the board 5x your bet for a single five of a kind. The premiums are a flower icon, an Ankh cross, a scorpion and a snake as well as Bastet and Horus. Hit five on a line to win 10x to 100x your stake.

The fabled scarab is the standard wild symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols. A pyramid with the Eye of Horus and a turquoise hue is the scatter in the base game. It will turn into a wild scatter during the free spins, recognizable by the red hue. Landing a full line with standard wilds and/or wild scatters will pay also 100x bet, however, the top prize will be awarded for hitting five scatters in the base game, coming in at a huge 1,000 times your total stake.

Dawn of Egypt Slot Features

If you ever played Eye of Horus and Legacy of Egypt, then think of both mechanics being combined in one game and you pretty much end up with Dawn of Egypt. Play’n GO tried to keep the legacy (pun intended) of the latter but give a new twist that will differentiate it from the original.

At the core, is still the pyramid scatter that will trigger the Wheel of Gods when three or more land anywhere on the reels in one spin. Plus, you will get a coin win of 5x, 20x and 1,000x your total bet for three, four and five scatters respectively. The mighty wheel will appear and spins once to award 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, or 20 free spins.

On each free spin, one premium symbol is randomly selected and all high-value symbols below in the paytable will be upgraded for the current spin. That is the one element that is inspired by the Eye of Horus slot. Now, that would not make this creation anything special and thus Play’n GO integrated a second twist that they took from Legacy of Egypt.

The turquoise hue on the standard pyramid scatter is changing to a red hue for the duration of the bonus feature, turning them into Wild Scatters. Any two landing on a free spin will trigger the Pyramid Spins. You will get four spins for each triggering scatter, maximum 20 for five wild scatters. Two or more Wild Scatters will retrigger more Pyramid Spins, no limits.

The regular free spins will be interrupted until the Pyramid Spins have been played. The kicker that can make a huge difference to your potential winnings is that the selected symbol upgrade on the triggering spin will be retained for the duration of all Pyramid Spins. For example, if the upgrade was to the top-paying Horus symbol, then you will have only Horus, royal and wild scatter symbols on the reels.

Once they are finished, the game will continue with the standard free spins, during which you can trigger the Pyramid Spins again. The feature ends once you run out of standard free spins.

Final Verdict

I am slowly losing count of how many Egyptian-themed slots Play’n GO has released in the last few years. This latest addition could well complete the dozen. The funny part is that they are now starting to combine mechanics from two Egyptian games into a new one, it feels almost like the creators had a Pick-and-Mix brainstorming session before they proceeded with the design and built. Nonetheless, it looks great and should provide good entertainment with a reasonable win potential that is capped at the Play’n GO default of 5,000 times your bet.
