Slot Details

Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower is a cascading video slot with six reels, four rows and 4,096 ways to win. Pays are awarded for two to six matching symbols landing on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can venture deep into the jungle on desktop, tablet or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has high volatility with an RTP of 96.17%.

The intrepid explorer is on to her next reel adventure, where she will face a feisty sorcerer who is guarding the precious gems. Will Gemma dare to enter the mystical village in the background of the frameless game window? Avalanching symbol stones will shatter when they are part of a winning combo while rock formations on the side display the current win multiplier. Triggering the free spins will light up the sorcerer’s village, ready for Gemma to go on her reel heist for big wins.

The pay symbols start at the low end with a range of smaller gems in blue, green, yellow, orange and pink colours, awarding 0.8x to 1x your bet for a single six of a kind. They are followed by more elaborate crystals in blue, green and red colours as well as the Knight Henchman and The Sorcerer. Hit six across the reels to win 1.5x to 20x your stake. A diamond ‘W’ icon is the wild symbol, appearing on reels two to six only and substituting for all regular pay symbols while a treasure chest acts as the scatter.

Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower Slot Features

After completing their Beat The Beast series with Griffin’s Gold, Thunderkick set out to add the second title to the newly started Crystal Quest series. While the former was primarily a 9-liner format, the latter is benefitting from a 6×4 game window with 4,096 ways. Similar to the Beat the Beast games, the sequels are not outright new creations but rather an evolution of their predecessors with small changes or added features.

At the core is still the tumbling reels mechanic which Thunderkick calls Avalanche feature. Every spin sequence starts with a set of symbols avalanching onto the six reels and any initial winning combo is removed to make place for new symbols to drop into place. This continues as long as a new win is scored after an avalanche. The progressive multiplier is also returning, providing the potential to score mega wins at any time. Every winning avalanche in a spin sequence will increase the multiplier by x1 and that indefinitely until no new wins occur. In the base game, the multiplier is reset to x1 at the end of each spin.

Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower Linked Reels

New on this second game in the series is the Linked Reels feature which replaces the Mystery Symbol modifier.. It can only activate at the start of a spin in the base game or free spins, synching 2 to 6 reels. Once they come to a stop, they will show identical symbols. The feature cannot trigger between avalanches within the same spin sequence.

Crystal Quest: Arcane Tower Free Spins

Hitting three scatters during a spin sequence will trigger 12 Free Spins with any further adding +3 free spins to the tally. During the feature, two scatters will award +3 extra free spins and any additional another +2 spins, no limits. Two twists will have a significant impact on your potential winnings from the round.

First, the progressive win multiplier does not reset between free spins. Instead, the accrued multiplier on the triggering spin will become the starting multiplier for the bonus round and will grow by x1 after each winning avalanche, again, no limits. Secondly, having a wild on the reels without any win occuring will trigger the Wild Explosion feature. All wilds in view will explode and remove all symbols horizontally in their row as well as vertically on their reel to allow for new symbols to drop into place for another chance to hit a winning combo. The Linked Reels feature can also trigger at the start of any free spin.

Final Verdict

Thunderkick seems on a path to create series of similar but not similar games. It all started in January 2020 with the first title in the Beat The Beast series which grew eventually to five highly volatile slots, all well received in the player community. Crystal Quest: Deep Jungle was the first in the second series featuring the dashing explorer, Gemma, on her reel expeditions in search of precious gems and crystals.

This second game is not all that different and feels more like a slight adjustment to the first one with the Linked Reels feature being the only real distinction between the two. Nevertheless, an entertaining game with ample win potential of up to 15,000 times your bet.
