King of the West is a 5×3 video slot with 20 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for connecting three or more symbols of the same kind from left to right. A horizontal rolling-reel slides instant prizes from right to left in conjunction with standard spinning reels below. You can start the hunt from 0.20 credits to 100 credits per spin. The game has a high volatility and below average RTP of 95.49%.
A new Western town provides the backdrop for King of the West, which is surely where our bounty hunter collects his bounties. Catchy western guitar music increases tempo with win animations and there’s plenty of gunshots and western-styled sound effects. Overall, a good visual presentation and slow guitar riff are easy on the senses.
The pay symbols of western styling start at the low end with 10, J, Q, K and A awarding up to 40x for 5 of a kind. Next come the Pistol, Whiskey and Carriage, awarding up to 100x your stake for 5 of a kind. The top-paying symbol, the Moneybag, pays up to 500x your bet for five of a kind. A Bullet-Hole Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Bounty Hunter Scatter, fundamental to the game mechanic, which acts as the collect symbol for instant prizes and the free spins round.
King of the West Slot Features
King of the West centres around the Bounty Hunter and his quest for bounties. Core to the game mechanic, the appearance on a reel of the Bounty Hunter symbol awards the corresponding prize from the rolling-reel above. Prizes include fixed cash amounts and bounty awards for wanted faces, a Gold Sheriffs Badge will claim all cash prizes displayed and lastly, a Free Games symbol takes you to the free spins round.
During any spin, there is a chance of winning a random Wanted Wilds feature. A six-shooter gun cartridge appears with numbered bullets 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 12. The cartridge spins and stops to reveal the number of wilds then randomly shot across the rested reel positions, creating an opportunity for five of a kind wins.
The same spinning cartridge amination determines 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 or 20 free spins to start the bonus round. During a bonus round, the prizes on the rolling reel carry greater value and the Bounty Hunter features more often. The Bounty Hunter works in the same way, claiming bounties from the positions above should he feature on the reel below and a new Extra Games symbol on the horizontal prize reel can award further spins.
King of the West joins a long line of western-themed slots at a slightly disadvantaged RTP of 95.49% when comparing to similar. The Bounty Hunter theme fits brilliantly with a collect feature with big prizes on offer if you’re lucky enough to see him. In a short test, King of the West leaned towards big hits and not much in between. Not many wins or wilds featured in the base game but a strong 1000x, 500x, Wanted Wilds feature and bonus round kept the interest. If your a fan of unexpected big hits this may carry some appeal.
