Slot Details

Pirates’ Bounty Megaways is a video slot with six reels, up to seven rows and 324 to 117,649 ways to win, using the licensed Megaways engine from Big Time Gaming. You can set sail on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 10 credits per spin. Choosing to gamble your won feature and using the Pirates’ Bounty Feature Extra Bet will cost you up to 100 credits. The game has medium to high volatility with an RTP of 96.50%.

Thanks to the Megaways game engine, the number of ways is randomly determined for every spin with the game engine selecting between two and seven pay symbols for reels 1 & 6 as well as two to six pay symbols for reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Additionally, the game has an extra reel at the top of the game window with four positions, extending from reel two to five, where more symbols appear on every spin.

Wins are paid for two to six adjacent symbols from left to right only. The symbols from a winning combination will then explode to make room for new symbols to drop into place, starting a chain reaction that will continue as long as a new winning combo occurs after a cascade.

Game developers love to use pirate themes on their creations as the seafarers were famous for their brazen heists similar to how we players like to pillage big wins on a slot. As such the scenery is all but unsurprising with the reels set onboard a pirate ship at sea and the usual pirate paraphernalia populating the reels to a swashbuckling soundtrack.

The pay symbols start at the low end with the card royals from 9 through to A, awarding 0.8x to 1x your stake for a single six of a kind. The premiums are a bronze octopus coin, a silver ship coin and a golden mermaid coin as well as a pirate skull. Hit six across the reels to win 2x to 50x your bet. An icon marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, appearing in the horizontal reel only and performing the usual substitution duties. There are no scatters on the reels in the base game, however compass bonus symbols can appear in the free spins to award additional spins.

Pirates’ Bounty Slot Features

Blueprint Gaming steams relentlessly ahead in their pursuit to stay at the top position as the developer with the most Megaways games. In the process, they mix and match various features from existing creations and add the odd new twist to the gameplay that will give each slot its own identity. Pirate’s Bounty Megaways squarely falls into that category with Deal or No Deal Megaways and William Hill Megaways being its closest siblings. The main difference is the way the Bounty Wheel works, so let’s take a closer look.

Pirates' Bounty Megaways Mystery Symbol
Pirates’ Bounty Megaways – Mystery Bombs Exploding

The most common feature you will encounter is the Mystery Symbol. Bombs with lit fuses may land on all reels including the horizontal one on any spin or cascade in the base game and free spins. Once the reels have stopped, they will explode to reveal one common symbol, including the top-paying pirate skull. However, they can contain neither wilds nor compass scatters.

The bonus wheel is activated via the Bonus Trail displayed on the left of the game window (desktop version). Every winning cascade within one spin sequence will advance you by one step with the lowest bonus game level triggering after the fourth cascade. Any progress that does not reach a bonus level will be reset at the end of a spin sequence. Once you make it to the three bonus options on the trail, the game awards the Bounty Wheel with four levels based on how high you climbed during the spin sequence. Each level comes with cash and/or free spin prizes with the maximum at 20 free spins. Retriggers are available by landing three or four compass scatters in the horizontal reel during the feature.

Pirates' Bounty Megaways Bonus Wheel

Pirates’ Bounty Megaways Bonus Wheel

Triggering the Bounty Wheel with four winning cascades will see you starting on the outer level, while five and six winning cascades will advance you directly to the higher levels. Overall, this is what is on offer on each level, including the extras from the Boost Pick-Me round.

  • Four Winning Cascades – Bonus: Cash prizes from 8x to 12x bet or 5 to 8 free spins, plus a green arrow to advance you to the next level
  • Five Winning Cascades – Super Bonus: Cash prizes from 15x to 35x bet or 8 to 13 free spins, plus a green arrow getting you to the next level
  • Six or Seven Winning Cascades – Super Bonus: 12 to 16 free spins, plus a green arrow to advance to the final level.
  • Eight Winning Cascades – Mega Bonus: 20 free spins

Before you spin the Bounty Wheel to determine your prize, the Boost Pick-Me round is played. You will be offered to choose one of three jewels – red, blue or green – on the side of the wheel to potentially improve your wheel prizes. Options are Extra Green Arrows which will add more green arrows to the wheels, Boost which increases the prizes on the wheels and Spin which will end the pick round and spin the Bounty Wheel. You can pick repeatedly until you reveal Spin.

The next part of the bonus is not available in jurisdictions where feature gambles are restricted. Anyone else can make an extra bet to improve their prize from the initial Bonus Wheel with the Pirates’ Bounty Feature Extra Bet. Staking an additional amount of up to 100 credits will get you another spin on the bonus wheel to potentially win up to 20 Free Spins. The exact stake amount is based on the won prize and the initial bet size. No gamble will be offered if you won the top prize on the wheel you are on. The difference to feature gambles on Blueprint slots is that you cannot lose your won feature, however, each extra spin on the wheel will cost you with no guarantee that it will lead to a better outcome. You can decide to collect at any time.

Pirates' Bounty Megaways Free Spins

Pirates’ Bounty Megaways –  Free Spins

The free spins are played in true Megaways fashion, starting with an x1 win multiplier which will increase by x1 for each winning cascade, no limits. Compass scatters can appear on the horizontal reel to award +5 or +10 free spins for three and four scatters respectively, again, no limits.

Final Verdict

Not sure how to rate Pirate’s Bounty Megaways. The slot delivers solid Megaways action with decent graphics and visuals as well as good win potential. However, the mechanics and features are not new, nor innovative as we have seen them on numerous other creations from Blueprint Gaming and other developers.

Overall, it feels like it has been designed as a casino lobby filler to increase the presence of Blueprint. Still, the game is good enough to be worth a few spins for any reel pirate.
