Have you played a Megaways slot from Blueprint Gaming lately? And did you realize they are somehow very similar yet still different? Well, here’s another one to add to the collection that might trigger exactly those thoughts. Temple of Treasure and Buffalo Rising mixed with Diamond Mine or vice versa. No matter how, but with more Megaways slots hitting the casino lobbies, it becomes increasingly difficult to see any significant differences.

Wolf Legend Megaways will let you first think that it is a 100% Buffalo Rising Megaways clone. Not only are both set against a canyon backdrop from the American West, but also come with similar pay symbols and soundtrack. Wolf Legend begs to differ though as it comes with a win potential of up to 50,000x bet or maximum 250,000 credits, which is five times that of Buffalo Rising, resulting also in higher volatility. Plus, it has a slightly lower RTP and a new way to gamble for more free spins in what Blueprint calls the Golden Streak. We shall see at the end of this review whether the Wolf Legend Megaways slot will end up on our favourites lists.

Slot Details

Wolf Legend Megaways is a video slot with six reels and up to 117,649 ways to win, using the licensed BTG Megaways game engine. Playable on desktop, mobile and desktop, the game comes with stake sizes from 0.10 to 10.00 credits. The RTP of this high variance game is set at 96.21%. Autoplay will let you choose 10 to 100 consecutive spins without interruption.

The number of ways from 324 to the maximum is randomly determined for every spin. The game is randomly selecting between two and seven pay symbols for reels one and six as well as two to six pay symbols for reels two to five. Additionally, the game has an extra reel at the top of the game window with four positions, extending from reel two to five, where more symbols appear on every spin.

Wins are paid for adjacent symbols from left to right only. The symbols from a winning combination will then explode to make room for new symbols to drop into place. This continues as long as a new winning combination occurs after a reaction.

As already mentioned, you will be returning the vast plains of the American West with a canyon at sunset visible in the background. The visuals change to a night setting in the free spins round. A native tune with flute sounds is complemented by the usual reels and win count noises.

Blueprint didn’t change too much and kept most of the pay symbols from Buffalo Rising. They start at the low end with the forever used card royals from 9 through to A. They are followed by eagles, bison, cougars and the first appearance of golden wolves. The latter pays what you might know by now from all other similar Megaways slots. You guessed right, it is 50x your bet for a single six of a kind.

A wolf marked with “wild” is the second wolf appearance and obviously, the wild symbol, appearing in the extra reel only and substituting for all other regular pay symbols. The third time a wolf appears, he will be marked with “bonus”, howling to the full moon and acting as the scatter on the slot. Last but not least a tile with a canyon scene at sunset it the mystery symbol.

The Mystery Symbol Feature

Mystery symbols can appear on all reels, including the extra reel, on any spin in the base game and free spins. They will reveal one common symbol once the dust has settled, including the top paying symbol. However, they cannot turn into scatter or wild symbols.

The Legend Free Spins Bonus Bet

Yet again Blueprint Gaming opted for the feature buy function as it seems to become more common lately. Maybe because we are increasingly impatient or are experiencing a lack of free time to wait for an organic bonus trigger. For the cost of 75x your stake, you can simply hit the Legend Free Spins Bonus Bet button before a spin starts and the game will spin minimum three scatters on to the reels, or more if you are having a lucky day.

The Legend Free Spin Feature

Very much similar to other Megaways slots so far, right? Well, here comes the main difference. Once you hit minimum three scatters, you won’t get a set amount of free spins. Instead, every scatter will reveal a random number between one and five free spins. And that is not the end yet as following the reveal, you will get to play the Golden Streak feature.

The existing scatters are locked in place and the remaining reel positions in the main game window are blanked out, plus you will be given one, two or three streak lives for 3, 4 or 5+ triggering scatters. Your aim is to hit more howling wolf scatters on the following respin which will award an additional one to five free spins. You will lose a streak life when no scatters land on a respin.

Once you exhausted all your lives, you will enter another screen where you will find the familiar gamble wheel. Here you can gamble your accumulated free spins from the triggering spin and the Golden Streak feature to win more streak lives, which will allow you to repeat the Golden Streak feature one time for a chance to win even more free spins. You can choose to gamble for 1, 2 or 3 extra streak lives. But beware, losing the gamble will mean that the entire bonus feature ends and all accumulated free spins are gone.

Finally, it is time to play the free spins which are using the same mechanic as most Megaways slots such as Bonanza and yes, Buffalo Rising. You will start off with an x1 multiplier, which will increase by +1 after every winning reaction, and that without limits.

During the feature, scatters appear in the horizontal reel only. Three or four on spin will award +5 and +10 free spins respectively.  Plus, the mystery symbol can also appear on any reel during the free spins.

Final Verdict

Clone or not? We changed our opinion a few times during our review and finally settled on semi-clone as the Golden Streak feature is indeed new and very different on how you can win more free spins. Other than that, you can look forward to the normal Megaways action on the reels with big win potential in the base game and free spins.
