Join the treasure hunter Kane on his quest for fortune and enter together the long-lost Temple of Luck to search for untold riches on the slot from Elk Studios. The Aztec inspired game will reveal its fortunes with symbol avalanches, epic sized pay symbols, random ghost wilds, an expanding game window and a bonus round with free drops and sticky wilds that can lead to wins of up to 2,500 times your bet.

Slot Details

Ecuador Gold is a video slot with six reels, 4 – 8 rows and 4,096 to 262,144 ways to win. Entering the Temple of Luck on mobile or desktop will cost you from 0.20 to 100 coins. The  RTP of this medium to high variance game is set at the Elk usual 96.10%. Use Betting Strategies and Autoplay to customize your betting patterns and set up 10 to 100 consecutive spins.

Graphics and Visuals

As with most games from Elk Studios, the visuals are a feast for the eyes. The game window is set inside a chamber of the Temple of Luck, appearing completely frameless and flanked by two temple columns with tribal patterns. Eternal flames illuminate the chamber that is ornamented with Aztec masks, statues and scattered gold coins. A tribal soundtrack creates a suspenseful air throughout the gameplay.

Pay Symbols

The authentic Aztec design continues with the pay symbols, which can all appear in single 1×1, super 2×2, mega 3×3 and epic 4×4 sizes, except the bonus symbol. All big symbol sizes will crush the symbols below them, except the wild and bonus symbols, and fall to the bottom of the game window. They start at the low end with eight Aztec-style crafted stones depicting stars, two types of crosses, suns, crocodiles, snakes, birds and leopards. The premium symbols are three golden Aztec masks and Kane himself. Pays for a single six of a kind range from 0.30 to 3.00 times your stake.

An intricate tile with a golden sun is the wild symbol, appearing on reels three to six only and substituting for all other symbols excluding scatters and ghosting wilds. Scatters are another intricate tile showing Kane in front of the Temple of Luck, marked with the word ‘Bonus’.

Avalanche and Expanding Game Mechanics Explained

Ecuador Gold uses an Avalanche mechanic to drop symbols from the top on every spin. Any winning combos are first paid before they explode to make room for new symbols to drop in. After each winning avalanche, the expanding game mechanic activates, adding one row to the game window after every win until it reaches a height of eight rows and 262,144 ways to win.

The game window resets to four rows and 4,096 ways and the round concludes when no new wins occur after a fresh avalanche. The total winning amount is then paid before the next spin starts.

Random Ghosting Wilds

On any spin in the base game and free spins, ghosting wilds can appear on reels three to six. The wild moves a random number of steps as soon as the symbol drop has completed and leaves a trail of wilds in its wake. All ghosting wilds that are part of a winning combo will explode together with all other symbols before the next symbol drop. However, in the free spins, they will become sticky wilds for the remainder of the feature.

The Ecuador Gold Free Spins Feature

Get ready for the big treasure as any wild in the free spins will turn into a sticky wild for the duration of the feature. Hitting three, four, five or six bonus scatters will trigger 10, 15, 20 and 25 free spins respectively, which can be indefinitely re-triggered.

The feature will start with the default game window and 4,096 ways to win. Every winning avalanche sequence will increase it by one row until it reaches the maximum size. The number of ways is changing to 15,625 with five rows, 46,656 with six rows, 117,649 with seven rows and ultimately 262,144 with eight rows. The kicker though in the free spins is that the game window will not reset to 4,096 ways after a losing avalanche as it does in the base game.

And that’s still not the end. Any wild landing on an avalanche will not explode and turn into a sticky wild for remaining free spins. A maximum of eight sticky wilds on reels three to six can be accumulated in a free spins feature, providing the potential to hit the top win in a single spin. The payout in a feature is limited by the provider to 250,000 credits, however, the overall potential could exceed easily 10,000x your bet.

Final Verdict

Ecuador Gold is probably the best slot release we have seen so far in 2019 and we are only in February. Packed with exciting pay mechanics, ample features and big win potential in the base game and free spins, it should make it into many favourites lists. Bonanza fans might have a slight “deja-vu” moment when they will see the avalanche mechanic for the first time but the game distinguishes itself well from all Megaways slots as a spin will always start with 4,096 ways to win.
