It all starts with a fairly standard 6×4 game engine, creating the usual 4,096 bet ways. Score a win and all reels that are part of it will expand by one row before a respin is awarded. The position where to insert the new symbols is randomly chosen. Only the newly added as well as the winning symbol positions will respin while all others are held in place to potentially land more winners. Based on what kind of winning combinations land, the reels will grow asymmetrically one row at a time. The process is repeated until the entire game grid is fully expanded, reaching a 6×10 size with 1,000,000 ways to win. The spin sequence concludes when no new winners hit and the game grid is reset to the default 6×4 format.

Two extras will add more winning potential while a spin sequence is in progress. First, the Stacked Respin applies to symbol positions directly on top of each other on the same reel. They will always land identical symbols on a respin. In turn, the Synced Respin can trigger randomly at any time in a spin sequence and synchronize two to five neighbouring reels, revealing the same symbols when they come to a stop.

Having three, four, five or six diamond scatters in view at the end of a spin sequence will trigger 10, 15, 20 and 25 Free Spins respectively, which can be indefinitely retriggered with the same combinations. During the feature, the Grand Synced Respin will come into play after each fifth win collected in the diamond meter at the top. The meter does not reset between free spins. On the first trigger, the Grand Synced Respin will expand reel four by one row, followed by reel four and five by one row on the second trigger. All subsequent Grand Synced Respin will expand reels four, five and six until they reach the maximum of 10 rows. The expansions do reset between free spin, ready to start the procedure all over again.

Final Verdict

The Grand Galore is another masterpiece in slot design coming from the highly creative folks at Elk Studios. But it doesn’t just look good, it does play well and has a good flow throughout the base game and bonus feature. Small caveat, in over three hours of testing we never managed to expand the reels to the maximum 1 million ways. Hence, don’t expect it to happen very often. Nevertheless, it was good fun to play the slot and we scored some remarkable wins. The maximum of up to 10,000x the bet is a rare occurrence on Elk slots, will be interesting to see how long it will take to see the first of such winning screenshots surface online.
