With largely unchanged visuals and sounds, symbols on the grid include again a range of small cubes reminiscent of the iconic cube, each side in a different colour – purple, rosé, green, red, turquoise and yellow. All have identical payouts, peaking at 40x your bet for clusters of 25 or more matching symbols. There are no wilds or scatters on this slot.

Cubes 2 Slot Features

Hacksaw Gaming is returning with a second creation involving multi-coloured cubes that strongly resemble the fabled Rubik’s Cube. While the original Cubes slot was a rather tame affair with a win potential that peaked at just over 3,000x bet, they cranked all areas up including extra features, more multipliers and more importantly with a top win pegged at 10,500 times bet.

Cubes 2 Slot – Grid Expansion to 7×7

All action still starts with a 5×5 format and landing clusters of five or more colour-matching squares horizontally and/or vertically connected will be a winner. However, no evaluation is done yet and instead, the grid will increase to a 7×7 size in a first step. More symbol squares around the 5×5 grid are added and should it improve the initial winning cluster or create a new one, then the process is repeated. In the process, the format will grow to 9×9 and in a last step to 11×11.

New or better said increased in numbers are the potential win multipliers. Instead of just one square in the centre, we have now four squares marked with an X, one in each corner of the initial 5×5 grid. The multiplier will activate when the marked square becomes part of a winning cluster. It will be equal to the number of matching symbols in the cluster, e.g. a cluster of 9 will award an x9 multiplier. Having a winning cluster include more than one marked square, then the multipliers are added. For example, if the same 9-symbol cluster includes two corner squares, then the win will be multiplied by x9 + x9 = x18. Any winning clusters appearing on the same spin that do not include any corner squares will not benefit from the multipliers.

Also new are now two Free Spins modes. The first is triggered when you hit five or more winning clusters in different colours within a single spin sequence. The game will award 5 Colour Blast Free Spins and present you with five covered mini-cubes. Pick one at a time to reveal extra spins until you unveil a colour. The maximum number of free spins peaks at 12.

The feature will start in the default 5×5 format with the background animations in the selected colour. Any grid expansion will not reset between spins until it reaches the max 11×11. The full grid will then be kept for the remainder of the free spins. All wins with the selected colour will be sticky with any further matching symbols landing adjacent to the cluster turning sticky too. Wins are evaluated and paid after every free spin.

And there is more. All instances of the selected coloured cube that become part of a sticky winning cluster will be collected. Surpassing specific thresholds will award an extra Colour Blast Win which will be added to the total payout from the feature – 50, 70 or 100 collected cubes pay 500x, 2,500x and 7,000x bet respectively.

Cubes 2 - Multi-Colour Free Spins

More excitement and even bigger wins could be coming your way in the second feature, the Multi-Colour Free Spins. It will be triggered when all four corner multipliers are activated within one spin sequence for winning clusters of the same colour. This can be four single or combined clusters.

Before the start of the round, the game will display again five covered mystery cubes. Pick one at a time to reveal colours until you unveil a number of free spins, which ranges between 5 and 10. All collected colours will become sticky for the duration of the feature when they are part of a winning cluster. Again, the grid will start in the default 5×5 size and increase to the max 11×11 where it will stay for the remainder of the feature. Wins are evaluated after every spin.

For the impatient among us slotting folks, there is a Buy Bonus button that will grant instant access to the bonus games (restricted in some jurisdictions). It will cost you a one-time bet of 109x your stake for the Colour Blast Free Spins and 129x for the Multi-Colour Free Spins. Beware, the features are rather volatile.

Final Verdict

Cubes 2 is indeed an improvement in all areas compared to its older sibling. It has more multipliers and two free spins mode, plus a win potential that is roughly three times higher. Naturally, the volatility has been increased too by a few notches. Overall, a very playable slot that will be most liked by the Bonus Buy crowd.
