Slot Details

You can join the Halloween party on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has high volatility with an RTP of 96.23%.

A haunted house on the top of a hill surrounded by fantasy trees on a full moon night is in the background of the translucent and frameless game window. Typical Halloween items such as potion cauldrons, pumpkin heads and gravestones dominate the reels. Wavering fog and a harrowing soundtrack add to the spooky atmosphere.

Open the game to find the card royals from 10 through to A at the low end of the paytable, awarding 10x to 15x your stake for a single five of a kind. They are complemented by skeleton hands, gravestones, green potion cauldrons and pumpkin heads. Hit five on a line to win 75x to 500x your stake.

The haunted Book of Halloween is the wild and scatter symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols. It will also 2x, 20x and 200x your total bet when three, four or five land on a spin.

Book of Halloween Slot Features

To this day, we reviewed countless “Book of …” slots, sometimes they come under an unsuspecting title, but all have one pay mechanic in common that can be traced back to Novomatic’s Book of Ra slot, although it owes its popularity to the Book of Dead slot from Play’n GO who brought the mechanic into the mainstream. Virtually every provider has a title in its portfolio which we usually call clones although some have added their own twist to the gameplay.

You might wonder now why we decided to give Book of Halloween a full review. The main reason is that it is the first with a theme for the spooky season, plus it has one twist included that makes the high-variance game even more volatile.

Key to hitting the mega wins on the slot is the free spins round. You will need to hit three to five book scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin to trigger 10 free spins, which can be re-triggered indefinitely. The game will also pay a coin win of 2x, 20x or 200x your total bet for three, four and five scatters respectively.

Before the bonus round starts, one of the nine regular pay symbols is randomly selected as the special expanding symbol. When sufficient land on a free spin, they will expand vertically to cover the entire reel and award wins for all pay lines, even when they are not adjacent. It will need minimum three low-paying symbols or minimum two premium symbols anywhere on the screen to see them expand and award a win. The wins from the expanding symbol are paid on top of any potential line wins.

This is, of course, the moment where the slot can produce the maximum win on a single spin. The selected special symbol has to be the pumpkin head and if five land in view across the reels, they will expand to pay 10 times the single line win for a five-of-a-kind, which is 500x the bet, resulting in a total of 5,000x your bet. Worth noting is that Inspired Gaming capped the payout at 250,000 credits.

The special kicker that Inspired included is the Gamble function. It is available in the base game only and has three settings – OFF, ON for every win, ON for wins of 5x the bet or more. The soon you hit then a respective win, the game will lead to the gamble screen where you can choose to gamble your win for to either doubling and tripling it or for 5 to 20 free spins. A pie chart indicates your chances to win the gamble. Click on the pie for the item you want to gamble for and the marker will start spinning. It will be a win if the marker ends in the green zone. You can hit collect at any time. However, bear in mind that losing the gamble means that you walk away with nothing.

Final Verdict

After well over a hundred “Book of …” slots from other providers, it finally daunted in one game studio that there is none with a Halloween theme. Inspired Gaming has now covered it with Book of Halloween and it is actually an improvement if you like gambling your winnings and sky-high volatility.
