Slowly we have to ask why JustForTheWin seems focussed on releasing a slot as identical twins? Rainbrew and Sidewinder,  Reel Talent and Icy Gems and now just weeks after releasing Shogun of Time they grace us with Reel Splitter, which is an exact clone of the former. Is it pure laziness or cost-cutting, since the math model and pay mechanics are already tested and running on the original? We might not get a straight answer to that.

With a classic fruit slot theme, the Reel Splitter slot comes with the same odd design with four reels that will expand to five reels after scoring a four-of-a-kind win. Plus, a free spins round will play out on 243 ways with five reels, a sticky expanded wild on reel three and a pay-both-ways mechanic for wins of up to 2,916 times your bet.

Slot Details

Reel Splitter is a video slot with four reels, three rows and 81 ways to win. This will increase in the respins and free spins features to five reels and 243 ways. You can join the samurai on her space journey on mobile and desktop from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The RTP of this medium variance game is set at 96.02%. Autoplay will allow you to set up 10 to 100 consecutive spins without interruption.

Graphics and Visuals

Just For The Win went for a classic fruit slot theme on Reel Splitter, which doesn’t have to be a bad thing but could we have maybe a little more creativity.

Pay Symbols

The low end is occupied by the usual card royals from 10 to A, while at the high end you will find lemons, plums, cherries, kiwis and the slot logo. All except the top paying symbol can appear as single or double-stacked symbols. Pays for a single five of a kind range from 2x to 12x your stake. There are also wild which performs the usual substitution duties as well as scatter symbols.

The Reel Split Respin Feature

Hitting any four-of-a-kind win in the base game can trigger the Reel Split Respin feature. After the initial win is paid, the portal will open and split the reels in the middle to insert the fifth reel. Only the added reel will respin to potentially award better or more winning combos.

The Reel Splitter Free Spins

The real potential of the slot is clearly in the free spins round as it will be played on a 5×3 reels set instead of the 4×3 format in the base game. Three or four scatters in one spin will trigger 8 and 16 free spins respectively. During the feature, the game will stay in the expanded format with 243 ways with the third reel as a sticky expanded wild symbol.

The kicker is though that wins are paid both ways, thus providing the chance to hit the max win on Shogun of Time, which peaks at 2,717.40x your stake. However, a five-of-a-kind is paid from left to right only, plus the free spins cannot be retriggered.

Final Verdict

Well, I wasn’t very excited when Just For The Win released Shogun of Time, hence, this clone won’t have me celebrating either. Being a clone with some lazy fruit slot graphics is just plain mass production of games just for the sake to increase the amount a studio has released. Probably in the hope, that more players will click on their game thumbs in a casino lobby. However, I don’t see this one staying on the front page of a casino any longer than the release day. The win potential is though acceptable, so I guess, playing Reel Splitter could lead to some good wins once in a while.
