Graphics and Visuals
The game window is set in a cartoon-like barn with chicken boxes on each side filled with greenbacks. I can see that Lightning Box tried to create a quirky atmosphere for the slot. The cartoon style extends to the pay symbols with goats, pigs and the farmer’s wife populating the reels. A banjo provides the main audio with chicken cries and reel sounds thrown into the mix.
Pay Symbols
Enter the henhouse to find 10 to A as pay symbols at the low end, followed in ascending order by a goat, a pig and a tractor. The farm lady is the wild and top-paying symbol, appearing in the base game only and substituting for all symbols except scatters. Pays for a five of a kind range from 3.33x to 166.66x your stake.
The slot also has six special symbols that play a significant role in the free spins. A toddler chicken, a young chicken, the mother hen and the rooster also appear in the base game and pay 6.66x bet for any mixed combination in the base game. They come with a coin value attached which will be the prize money the fox collects in the free spins, however, they are not awarded in the base game. The fox appears as a single or double symbol in the free spins only, plus a white egg which will award extra spins.
The Chicken Fox Free Spins Feature
The main attraction on this slot is triggered when three to five scatters land in one spin. On top of coins wins from 2x to 100x the total bet, the game awards 8, 15 and 30 free spins. The feature is played out on a new reel set where all regular symbols are removed and replaced with blanks, single and double fox symbols, the four chicken symbols and the white egg.
On every spin where a fox lands together with one or more chicken, he collects the coin win attached to the chicken, ranging from 2.5x to 33.33 times the bet. A double fox symbol will double the prizes. More than one fox can land on a spin, each collecting the coin wins. A white egg landing with a fox will award one to five extra free spins, again this will be doubled when a double fox hits on the same spin. We regularly hit 30 to 40 free spins in our test runs.
Final Verdict
Hilariously funny or just a lot of noise for little rewards? To be honest, I can’t make my mind up. Admittedly, Chicken Fox is a quirky slot but it just seemed awfully hard to hit a mega win or to trigger the free spins round. I guess, it will be good enough for medium wins in the 50x to 200x region but I have trouble seeing how it could get to the maximum win of 3,150x the stake.
