Slot Details

Jungle Jim and The Lost Sphinx is a cascading video slot with five reels, four rows and 35 fixed pay lines as default. It can increase during the gameplay to a 5×5 format with 50 pay lines. Your reel expedition on desktop or mobile starts at just 0.10 credits and goes up to 20 credits per spin. The game is more volatile than its older sibling but still in medium to high variance territory with an RTP of 96.30%.

What a change of scenery. Returning from the South-American rain forest on Jungle Jim: El Dorado, the intrepid explorer has set off on a new expedition, this time heading to the Egyptian desert in search of hidden ancient treasures. He’s grown a little older but is still showing off a perfect quiff and 3-day beard. Equipped with the latest GPS outdoor smartphone, he jumps into his jeep for a hair-raising ride through the desert dunes. The reels are encased in a hieroglyph-engraved stone frame with the win multiplier trail being placed on top. New is a Win Booster button on the left of the game window that you can use to increase your chance to trigger the free spins.

While the low-value blue, green, orange and red gems have been kept from the original, the medium-value symbols have been exchanged for Egyptian artefacts – decorated amphoras, treasure chests and an ominous old book decorated with a scarab. The man himself is the top symbol, giving you 10x your bet when five land on a line. The slot logo is wild, appearing on all reels bar the first and substituting for all regular pay symbols.

Jungle Jim and The Lost Sphinx Slot Features

Central to the gameplay is the Rolling Reels mechanic which has been kept from the original Jungle Jim slot. Well, at the time it was actually copied from the mother of all cascading slots, Gonzo’s Quest by NetEnt. At the start of a spin sequence, symbols drop from the top onto the reels and any winning combination explodes after the payout to make room for new symbols to fall into place. The spin sequence continues until no new wins occur after a drop.

Additionally, a multiplier trail will activate after the first win which will be applied to any further consecutive wins. It will only reset to x1 at the end of a spin sequence.

  • Start Level: Every spin sequence starts on a 5×4 format with 35 pay lines
  • After the 1st cascade: the win multiplier increases to x2
  • After the 2nd cascade: the win multiplier increases to x3
  • After the 3rd cascade: the win multiplier increases to x4, plus the reels set increases to a 5×5 size with 50 pay lines
  • After the 4th cascade: the win multiplier increases to x5
  • After the 5th cascade and thereafter: The win multiplier increases and stays at x10 until the end of the round

A new twist has been included in the gameplay to avoid having the multiplier dropping straight to x1 after a losing cascade. However, the Second Chance Respin is only available if no winning combo lands after the third cascade, giving you one respin to potentially score a win and continue on the multiplier trail.

Hitting three, four or five scatters in one spin will trigger 12 free spins plus you’ll get a coin win of 5x, 10x and 20x your total bet respectively. The free spins cannot be retriggered as such but collecting six sphynx symbols, appearing only on reel three during the feature, will award +1 free spin, no limits.

The free spins are played on the full 5×5 game window with 50 pay lines, plus, the win multiplier will start at x2 on the default level and increase to x3, x4, x8, x12 and x20 on consecutive winning cascades. Similarly to the main game, it will reset to x2 at the end of a free spin.

If you are feeling like spending a little extra to increase your chance to trigger the free spins, you can activate the Win Booster in the base game and a scatter will be added to reels. A simple click on the button on the left of the reels and the additional cost will be added to your default bet size. You can opt to deactivate the feature after every spin in the base game.

Final Verdict

Well, if you waited for something dramatically new on the sequel to Jungle Jim: El Dorado, then you might be quite disappointed as it is more like an evolution than a revolution. The graphics and visuals might not impress you either too much but overall, Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx is an improvement with an increased game window, extra features and higher win potential.
