Ride off into the wild west on the slot from Microgaming and score stacked mystery symbols to trigger respins that can lead to wins of up to 1,500 times your stake. Saddle your steed and polish your six-shooter to jump into the action on the reels of Showdown Saloon, a slot created in collaboration with Fortune Factory Studios.

Slot Details

Showdown Saloon is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 15 fixed pay lines. Riding on the reels on mobile or desktop will cost you 0.20 to 100 credits, which is an odd choice for a 15-liner. The RTP of this medium variance game is set at 96.16%, that will help to keep you in the saddle for long gaming sessions. Not in the mood to spin manually? Then use Autoplay to select 10 to 100 consecutive spins without interruption.

Graphic and Visuals

Admittedly, this game is not a graphics feast for the eyes. A rather simple background with typical Wild West items scattered around the game window does not impress that much considering what Microgaming is capable of. The game window itself is just as generic with typical pay symbols from the era in the 19th century. A saloon-like soundtrack fits the theme but didn’t do much to lighten our mood or improve our opinion about the visuals. There is a feeling that this slot was quickly assembled to rush something out in the holiday season.

Pay Symbols

You will find 9 regular pay symbols and one wild symbol on the reels that can all appear in stacks. Starting at the low end are the usual card royals from 10 to A. They are followed in ascending order by a pair of dice, a whiskey bottle with glasses, a pile of blue saloon gambling chips and a colt. A poker hand of a royal flush is the wild symbol, substituting for all symbol except scatters. Pays for a single five of a kind range from 1x to 100x your stake. The scatters are a cowboy wielding his two colts.

Mystery Symbol Stacks and Respins Feature

The main action in the base game are the mystery stacks as the line pays are rather low with just 7x the bet for the highest regular symbol. On every spin, the game will select for each reel one pay symbol including wilds and scatters to appear super stacked. In the base game, only the front two reels are identical symbols.

A respin is triggered when full stacks of matching symbols land on reels one and two. They are held in place while the reels spin again after any potential wins are paid, providing the chance to hit more identical stacks on reels three to five. If a full stack lands on reel three, wins are paid first before all three reels are then locked and another respin awarded. This continues as long as new stacks land adjacent to the main symbol block or all five reels are covered with matching stacks. Pays for a full screen of regular symbols range from a mediocre 15x bet up to a still very low 105x your stake. Having wilds on all reels will pay the top win for this game which stands at 1,500 times your bet.

Free Spins Feature

Hitting three, four or five full stacks of scatters from the left in one spin will award 5, 10 or 15 free spins respectively, which cannot be retriggered. During the feature. the Mystery Symbol Stacks are now identical for all reels instead of just the two front reels in the base game. The respins are triggered in the same fashion as in the base game. No multipliers or other modifiers are in play, meaning that we rely on the mystery stacks to produce some big wins.

Final Verdict

We decided to leave our six-shooter in the drawer and the steed in the corral as Showdown Saloon is not really to our taste, nor will it lift any eyebrows in the gaming community. Microgaming produced some hit slots in the past such as Immortal Romance or Thunderstruck II but lately, they seem to become lazy and outsource the production of their games. Which doesn’t always mean that it will be a poor game but most releases in the last few years have been non-starters. Plus, the developer gave the math model on Showdown Saloon a high variance profile but only a 1,500x bet as the maximum win. Now, we love HV games but then we also expect to see a much higher win potential than here as that is the spice to play such games.
