The mighty Pegasus returns for another reel voyage through Greek mythology on the slot from NetEnt. Divine Fortune Megaways is the sequel to the original progressive jackpot game released in 2017. However, the jackpots have been removed in favour of the Megaways upgrade while the Falling Wild Respins and Wild-on-Wild features, as well as the free spins round, have been kept. New is an extra chance for a bonus win in the free spins worth up to 500 times your bet.

Slot Details

Divine Fortune Megaways is a video slot with six reels, up to seven rows and 64 to 117,649 ways to win. At the start of every spin, the game engine will randomly select two to seven symbols for every reel, leading to a virtually unlimited number of row and symbol combinations. The game does not have a tumbling reels mechanic that can be usually found on Megaways slots. Pays are awarded for two to five matching symbols landing on adjacent reels from left to right only. You can face the mighty Greek deities on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has medium to high volatility with an RTP of 96.09% and a hit frequency of roughly 1:2.5 spins.

The visuals and animations are largely unchanged. A Greek theme is at the core of the design with two female statues flanking the reels in the base game. They will be replaced by two lions in the free spins round. Missing are three jackpot displays as well as the amphora for collecting the triggering coins for the jackpot bonus game. The soundtrack is heartwrenching most of the time, briefly interrupted by lion roars or cries from the Griffin when they land in a winning combination.

The pay symbols start at the low wend with Greek-style card royals from 10 through to A, awarding 0.50x to 0.70x your bet for a single six of a kind. They are followed by four creatures from Greek mythology – Griffin, Minotaurus, Nemean lion and Medusa. Hit five across the reels to win 1.2x to 5x your stake. Pegasus is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular symbols while a wreath with Zeus’s thunder acts as the scatter.

Divine Fortune Megaways Slot Features

Ever since its release in 2017, the original Divine Fortune slot has proven to be one of the most popular progressive jackpot games in NetEnt’s portfolio. Unsurprisingly, they chose it as one of the first to receive the Megaways upgrade, featuring now up to 117,649 bet ways instead of 20 fixed pay lines. Not much else has changed in the gameplay except that they removed the biggest attraction of the slot, the two fixed jackpots and the progressive Mega Jackpot and replaced it with three bonus pots in the free spins that can be worth up to 500 times the bet. Well, let’s recount what has been kept from the original.

Pegasus landing anywhere on a reel will trigger the Falling Wild Respin feature after any initial wins are paid. The Wild will shift down by one position on each respin until it disappears at the bottom of the reels, potentially leading to repeated winning combos. The reels will spin one more time after the last wild has dropped from the screen.

A Wild landing behind the shifting wild on the respin will activate the Wild-on-Wild Feature. Pegasus will expand, covering the entire reel that can be anything from two to seven symbols high. The wilds will again nudge downwards on every respin until the last one disappears from the screen. More wilds can land during any of these two features, further extending the respins.

Four, five or six scatters landing on the reels in one spin or respin will trigger 10, 15 and 20 free spins respectively, which cannot be retriggered. Any wilds landing during the feature will instantly activate the Wild-on-Wild feature where Pegasus expands and shifts down in the same manner as in the base game.

And here comes the new twist. The scenery is changing upon entering the free spins with three displays being added at the top. These are Bonus Wins which can be won by landing bronze, silver or gold coins on the reels during the feature. The respective Bonus Win is awarded once you have collected five matching coins – Bronze at 10x, Silver at 25x and Gold at 500x bet. The meter is then reset and you can start collecting again. All three Bonus Wins can be won multiple times in a single free spins round.

Final Verdict

Not sure NetEnt have done themselves a favour with this, well, let’s call it an upgrade although it doesn’t feel like one most of the time. The main attraction on the original was the progressive Mega jackpot which usually triggered upon reaching low 6-figure sums, a huge win for any player. Plus, they did not include cascading symbols and the tumbling reels mechanic, which means we have here a straight spinning slot. Oh well, it is what it is.

I ran a few hours of testing and while the Falling Wild Respins occurred rather often, the Wild-on-Wild feature and the free spins seemed awfully hard to trigger. To make up for that, they gave the slot a high hit rate, although the payouts often did not cover the bet. At times, it felt like a 3-of-a-kind fiesta with one landing five or six spins in a row, yet the balance was still dropping.

The main win potential seems to be in the free spins as Pegasus will instantly expand and having more than one on the reels will be the key to scoring those mega wins. The maximum is noted with 25,000x although chances to hit are less than 1:39 billion spins. A little more realistic is the 10,000x threshold at just under 1:1 billion spins. Rather low odds overall which are normally an indication that we will see wins in the 100x – 500x range more often.
