Delve into the eternal underworld for an encounter with four mischievous devils on the grid slot from NextGen Gaming, powered by SG Digital. The Demon Code is taking you on a high-volatility subterranean reel adventure where the motley crew will unleash their powers in four unique modifiers. Collect scatters to decipher the code and summon the Gate Keeper who will grant you entrance to the free spins hall with rising rows, unlimited multipliers and retriggers that can lead to wins of up to 250,000 credits or 12,500 times bet, whichever is hit first.

Slot Details

The Demon Code is a 6×6 grid slot with cascading symbols and cluster pays (more to the mechanic shortly). The size will gradually increase to a 6×12 format in the bonus feature. Wins are awarded for clusters of four or more matching symbols landing horizontally and/or vertically connected. You can descend into the devils’ den on desktop and mobile from 0.10 to 20 credits per spin. The game has medium to high volatility with an RTP of 96.263% and a rather generous hit rate of 1:2.44 spins.

The pay symbols are divided into two groups of four with colours corresponding to the demons sticking to the reel frame. At the low end, there are four diamond shapes in 3D with a green, blue, purple and red hue, each awarding 10x your bet for clusters of 25 or more symbols. They are followed by green, blue, purple and red orbs held in demon claws and increasing in size as they get more valuable. Hit clusters of 25+ symbols to win 20x to 50x your stake. A blazing W is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols. It will no appear on the initial cascade unless it is revealed by a devil’s eye scatter.

The Demon Code Slot Features

Considering that NextGen Gaming was not always seen as the most creative developer, they have released some truly entertaining slots lately including Pillars of Asgard and Rise of the Mountain King. Stunning graphics, intricate animations, dramatic soundtracks, suspenseful modifiers and exhilarating bonus features were not exactly their strength but they seem to have upped their game considerably in the last years. Reason enough to take a closer look at what’s included in this creation.

Core to the gameplay is the cascading symbol mechanic. At the start of a spin sequence, 36 symbols cascade onto to the default 6×6 grid. Hit a cluster of minimum four or more matching symbols connected vertically and/or horizontally and you have a winner. All symbols from the combo will disappear and the remaining symbols will drop towards the bottom before new ones cascade into the empty spaces. The process is repeated as long as more winning clusters occur after a cascade. Simultaneously, the win multiplier shown to the left of the screen will start at x1 and increase by x1 after every winning cascade or the Enter The Void feature is triggered, no limits. In the base game, it will reset to x1 once a spin sequence concludes.

The Enter The Void feature triggers any time the winning cascades come to an end and you have an unused wild symbol in view. It will set off a vortex and remove all adjacent symbols and itself from the grid. New symbols will then cascade from the top, potentially creating new winning combos and keeping the spin sequence going.

The Demon Code Wild Modifier

The Demon Code – Dark Design Feature

Watch out for the four devils holding on to the reel frames as they will pounce on any opportunity to unleash their Demon Powers and create mayhem on the grid. To set them off you will need to land a corresponding demon talisman symbol after a winning cascade. Keep in mind that only one can appear per tumble.

  • Green Demon – Ancient Alchemy: The talisman will drop into the fire pit below the reels unleashing an energy burst that will create a random number of mystery symbols on the grid. All in view will reveal a common pay symbol.
  • Blue Demon – Cryptic Chaos: The talisman will again drop into the fire pit below the reels and select a random pay symbol for a scattered pay. The win is calculated according to the total number of matching symbols anywhere in view.
  • Purple Demon – Dark Design: The talisman drops yet again into the fire pit and creates a random number of wilds on the grid.
  • Red Demon – Fiery Fusion: After the talisman drops into the fire pit an energy burst will place a 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 mega symbol on a random grid position.

The cascades continue as usual should the modifiers lead to new winning clusters. More talismans can appear on subsequent cascades, triggering again their associated modifier when no more wins occur. However, Demon Power features do not increase the win multiplier. The demons will return to their position on the side of the reel frames once the modifiers have been applied, waiting for the next talisman to appear.

The Demon Code Free Spins

The Demon Code – Free Spins Feature

Keep a proverbial eye on the Devil’s Eye Scatter landing at any time on the grid. Each instance will light up the Demon Code meter at the top and collecting four within the same spin sequence will trigger 10 Free Spins, with each further scatter adding another +2 free spins to the tally. The current win multiplier will be carried over into the bonus round and will not reset between free spins. Instead, it will grow without limits until the end of the feature. Plus, the Demon Summon and Enter The Void modifiers can be triggered on any free spin.

But there is more, actually a lot more. At the start of the feature, the game grid increases by one row to a 6×7 format. Collecting again four scatters will add another row and award + 2 free spins until it reaches the maximum 6×12 size. As an extra one-time reward, the multiplier will be increased by x10 once the full 12 rows have been opened up. The Demon Code meter will then be removed and every scatter landing will now award +2 free spins, no limits. The round ends when you run out of free spins or reach the win cap of 250,000 credits.

Final Verdict

Gone are the times of dreary slot creations with at best rudimentary graphics, cue in a new generation of exhilarating games that punters will love to play. NextGen Gaming has undergone quite a change lately and surprises us time and again with truly stunning slots. The Demon Code falls squarely into that category, delivering an entertaining gaming experience with a comical touch, striking twists and ample win potential. Beware though, the little demons can be quite volatile as the average interval for a bonus feature has been noted with 1:278 spins.
