Slot Details

Miner Donkey Trouble is a cascading grid slot in a 5×7 format with cluster pays. Wins are awarded for clusters of five or more matching symbols landing horizontally and/or vertically connected. You can join the two comical prospectors on desktop, tablet and mobile from 0.10 to 100 credits per spin. The game has high volatility (8/10) with an RTP of 96.27%. Beware, some operators might offer it with secondary RTP settings of 94.26% or even as low as 91.25%, always read the help file to find out which version you will be playing.

Loading the game will see you descending into the mine together with the two comical characters who will stand on either side of the grid throughout the gameplay to cheer you on in your prospecting endeavours. Candles and oil lamps are illuminating the mine and the grid with the latter populated by gems and golden nuggets. Various displays on both sides will assist in keeping track of the gameplay and payouts.

The pay symbol set is divided into two groups of rocks and gems. At the low end are four small rocks in pale colours –  brown, blue, jade green, yellow – awarding between 5x and 10x your bet for clusters of 18 or more symbols. They are followed by four elaborate gem formations in purple, turquoise, green and red colours. Hit clusters for 18+ symbols to win 20x to 250x your stake. Plus, there are four special symbols – diamond wild, pickaxe, golden nugget and diamond scatter.

Miner Donkey Trouble Slot Features

At first sight, Miner Donkey Trouble seems to have some resemblance with other Play’n GO’s grid slots, especially their blockbuster creation Reactoonz. There’s a charge meter unleashing a range of modifiers and most of all the cluster pay mechanic. However, digging deeper (pun intended) reveals quite a few differences which make Miner Donkey Trouble stand on its own although the modifiers have featured in one form or another on other creations.

Just like most grid slots, we have at the core of the gameplay cascading symbols mechanic with cluster pays. At the start of a spin sequence, 35 symbols cascade from the top onto the 5×7 game grid. To hit a win, you will need to hit clusters of five or more matching symbols landing horizontally and/or vertically connected. All symbols in the combo will explode and new symbols will drop into place. This continues as long as new winning clusters hit after a fresh cascade. A display on the left of the grid will help you keep track of the payouts from the current round.

All wins contribute to the Donkey Destruction meter to the left of the game window (desktop). One of three modifier features is awarded and queued once the respective threshold of accumulated symbols is reached within the same spin sequence. The queued modifiers are triggered consecutively when no new wins occur after a cascade. Each will be awarded only once per game round.

  • 18 Winning Symbols – Donkey Destruction 1: Removes rock symbols from the grid
  • 40 Winning Symbols – Donkey Destruction 2: Removes all rock and gem symbols from the grid except any special symbols
  • 50 Winning Symbols – Donkey Destruction 3: Removes all but special symbols form the grid and guarantees up to 5 extra golden nuggets in the following cascade.

Watch out for Golden Nuggets appearing on the grid or via the third Donkey Destruction modifier. They have no pay value but will be removed once they reach the bottom row within the same spin sequence. For each removed nugget, the win multiplier for the round is increased by x1, no limits. Any activated multipliers are applied to subsequent wins in the same round. In the base game, the multiplier is reset between spins.

Miner Donkey Trouble – Gameplay and Free Spins

And there is more. Miner’s Pickaxe symbols can land when a cascade of new symbols drops onto the grid after a winning combo is removed. They don’t have a pay value either but will be removed and a Pickaxe Wild feature queued. It will trigger once no new wins occur, any golden nuggets have been collected and any activated modifiers applied, adding 4 – 10 Diamond Wilds to random reel positions. The spin sequence continues then as usual.

And still not the end. The Mega Symbol feature can trigger randomly on losing spins or after all cascades & modifiers have concluded. When it does, one or two identical rock, gem or Diamond Wild mega symbols will be placed on random grid positions. Possible sizes are 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4. A spin sequence will finally come to an end when no more winning clusters occur and all modifiers have been applied. Wins are accumulated throughout a round and paid in one amount before the next spin starts.

Lastly, the main event. Dynamite scatters can appear when a cascade of new symbols drops onto the grid to fill the empty gaps after a winning combo is removed. They will detonate once no more winning clusters occur, destroying all rock and gem symbols in a 2-grid radius around them and adding two Diamond Wilds. After the detonation, they will be collected in the scatter meter to the right of the grid (desktop). Detonating three diamond within the same spin sequence will trigger 5 Free Spins which can be retriggered up to a maximum of 20 spins in total. During the feature, any won Golden Nugget multipliers will not reset between free spins.

Final Verdict

Phew, that was quite something. Miner Donkey Trouble is most certainly a very entertaining slot with ample features and suspenseful moments that will keep you prospecting for those mega wins of up to 10,000 times your bet. Odds could be high that this slot will convince some Reactoonz fans to adjust their favourites list.
