Moon Princess

Review

Meet three sweet ladies on this manga-inspired slot from Play’n GO. Moon Princess will see Storm, Love and Star unleash their Girl Power to modify the reels and lead you to the Princess Trinity and Free Spins features. You can pick from three modes in your bonus round that can lead to wins of up to 5,000 times your bet.

Slot Details

Moon Princess is a 5×5 grid slot with cluster pays. Wins are awarded for three to five adjacent symbols horizontally or vertically. Your manga reel adventure on desktop or mobile starts at 0.20 and peaks at 100 credits per spin. The game has maximum volatility (10/10) with a default RTP of 96.50%. Some operators are offering the slot with the secondary RTP setting of 94.51%, always read the help files to find out which version you will be playing.

A dreamy background is changing colours based on which princess is actively standing on the right of the grid. In the base game, they will randomly trigger their respective reel modifier before the next princess takes over. All three feature prominently on the reels while a male voice will announce the features. A pacey electronic soundtrack keeps things lively at all times.

The pay symbols start at the low end with four mystical icons – green and yellow circle with a moon crescent, blue start with a moon crescent, red heart and winged bell – awarding 2x to 3x your bet for a single five of a kind. They are followed by the three princesses, each marked with a colour – green Storm, blue Star and red Love. Hit a cluster of five to win 10x your bet. Any mixed combination of the three princesses will pay 3x your bet when five land adjacent. The moon is the wild symbol, substituting for all other symbols and paying 50x your bet your hit a cluster of five.

Moon Princess Slot Features

As usual with grid slots from Play’n GO, they are based on a storyline that progresses through the gameplay. Moon Princess is derived from the immensely popular Japanese manga comic series Sailor Moon which appeared for the first time in 1991 and is still continued to this day. The action on the reels is centred around the three princesses, each equipped with a Girl Power to modify the reels and help you creating winning clusters.

At the start of a spin sequence, 25 symbols drop onto the grid. Any clusters of three to five horizontally or vertically adjacent symbols will be removed and the remaining symbols drop towards the bottom. A wild moon symbol is created in the centre of a 3-symbol cluster, which will help to keep the winning chain going. The sequence ends when no new winning combos occur.

One princess will always stand on the right of the grid, randomly activating her Girl Power feature on a losing spin. It will happen only once in the base game to help you progress to the first bonus feature.

  • Love: All instances of one symbol in view will turn into a different symbol
  • Star: She will add one or two wild moon symbols to random positions on the grid
  • Storm: Two sets of symbols in view are destroyed

A win multiplier increases by x1 after each drop of the remaining symbols on the grid. It will reset at the end of spin sequence and when you enter the Princess Trinity feature but will be carried over if you manage to trigger the free spins.

To the left of the game window is the Power Meter with three sections. A winning combo with three matching or mixed Princess symbols will fill up one section, while a four-symbol combo will power up two sections and a five-symbol combo will illuminate three sections. Filling the meter will trigger the Princess Trinity feature. You will get one free spin with the aim to clear the grid and trigger the free spins. Any wild symbols remaining will be removed. The princesses will each unleash their Girl Power in the order – Love, Star, Storm – to help you in clearing the grid.

Should you manage to clear the grid, then the Free Spins feature is triggered. The game will bring up three choices for your feature. You can pick any on each trigger. Choices are Love with four free spins, Start with five free spins and Storm with eight free spins. The selected princess will unleash her Girl Power feature on every losing free spin. Filling the Power Meter on the left in the same fashion as in the base game will retrigger the feature, up to a total of 20 free spins.

The win multiplier reached in the Princess Trinity feature will be carried into the free spins round and will keep growing by x1 with each winning drop, up to a maximum of x20 and will not reset until the end of the round.

Final Verdict

You have to give it to Play’n GO, they are the true masters of grid slots. While many creations share some similarities, they are always different enough to make them stand out and offer new surprising features. Beware though, while the three princesses smile and look lovely, the game has maximum volatility which can eat up sizeable balances on a rainy day.
