Panther Pays is a video slot with five reels, four rows and 50 pay lines. Wins are awarded for two to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can come face to face with the wild creature on desktop, mobile and tablet from 0.50 to 500 credits per spin. The low to medium variance game has an average return to player rate (RTP) of 96.28%.
Playtech didn’t make much of an effort on the graphics and slapped the game window in front of a rainforest scene with some sort of ancient temple ruins. The lower value character symbols look out of place on the structured background while the black panther dominates the gameplay as it appears in full stacks at all times. There is no soundtrack other than the usual slot noises.
The pay symbols start at the low end with the card royals from 9 through to A, awarding pays of 1x to 2x your bet for a five of a kind. They are followed by frogs, monkeys, tribal masks, parrots and black panthers. Hit five on a line to win 3x to 5x your stake. A diamond which looks totally out of place is the wild symbols, appearing on reels two to five only. An intricate icon with a green gem arrangement acts as the scatter.

Well, there is not much to report as the game comes with a simple free spins round and no other bonus features. Hit three to five scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin to trigger 10 free spins and win 5x, 20x and 100x your total bet. You can retrigger five free spins every time you land minimum three scatters during the feature. The only modifier available in the bonus round are extra wilds. The game will add one wild to each symbol strip from reel two to five for every free spin. This means by spin ten you will have 10 extra wilds on each reel, which should make it easier to hit big wins. Well, if you can call it big, a full screen of panthers will give you a mediocre 250x your stake.
Final Verdict
Am I the only one who has the feeling that the big game studios have completely stopped creating exciting games? Microgaming, IGT, Playtech, they all have become complacent and are happy to churn out one mediocre slot after the other. Panther Pays fits nicely into that category, badly designed, pay symbols out of place and virtually non-existent win potential, unless you are rooting to win maximum 250x your bet on a slot.
