Take your slotting wins to new heights on the slot from Red Tiger Gaming. Win Escalator has a unique 4×3 format with a locking Diamond Wilds reel mechanic and a free spins round where arrow symbols will extend the game window up to a 4×8 size and escalate your wins up to 859 times your bet.

Red Tiger Gaming seems to be on a mission to create strange looking slots with weird formats and few pay lines. The Power Reels series has seen already a few games being released with up to 8 reels or 8 rows, yet the pay lines are often in single digit territory and remind us of the good ol’ slot machines of yesteryear. Win Escalator fits into the same category and it remains to be seen whether the format will be popular with the casino community.

Slot Details

Win Escalator is a video slot with four reels, three rows and, hold on, an entire three pay lines. This can increase up to a 4×8 format with a “massive” eight pay lines. Wins are awarded for three or four matching symbols on a line from left to right only. It is available on desktop or mobile from 0.10 to a modest 30 credits per spin. Not that I see any reason that it is worth risking more on this slot.

The volatility is low (2/5) and the RTP is set at 96.05%. However, Red Tiger Gaming is known to supply their games with a variety of RTPs, so please check the help files to find out what version you will be playing as it could be as low as just 94%.

The design is at best rudimentary arcade style and at worst stuck in the 1970s. A simple red bar on each side holds the frameless reels which are populated by traditional slot machine symbols. The only thing bringing the design into the 21st century are the animations when the expansion mechanic is triggered. Other than that it is terribly stuck in a time gone by. A generic sounding electronic audio is making matters only worse.

Get your dose of traditional pay symbols with cherries, lemons, oranges, grapes and melons, awarding 2x to 7.5x your bet for a single four of a kind. Stars, horseshoes, bells and 7s feature at the high end, awarding 9.6x to 32x your stake when four land on a line.

The shiny diamond marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols and giving you 40x your bet for a 4OAK. A simple icon marked with the words “Free Spins” acts as the scatter symbol. A red downward arrow appears in the free spins only, triggering the expansion mechanic.

Win Escalator Slot Features

Looking past the boring base game with just three pay lines, the game relies on its features to give players at least some suspense and excitement. First up are the Diamond Wilds, which will act as a form of locking wilds in the base game and free spins. They will stay on screen and move down by one row on each subsequent spin until they fall off the bottom, providing more potential to hit a win on the few available pay lines. It should be noted that the spins with locking wilds are normal paid spins and not free respins.

The mechanic takes another twist in the free spins feature. You will need to land minimum three scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin to trigger 10 free spins, which cannot be retriggered as such. However, all Diamond Wilds in view on the triggering spin and on any free spin will award +1 free spin, no limits.

During the feature, the locking Diamond Wilds are in play, plus an additional twist that can have quite an impact on your potential winnings from the round. The game window will increase by one row (and one pay line) for each arrow symbol until it reaches the maximum of eight rows and a “huge” eight pay lines. The reels will reset to the default 4×3 format once the feature ends.

Final Verdict

You might have figured out by now that I am not a huge fan of this slot. And you are not wrong, in my opinion, it simply looks dated and stuck somewhere in the past. The low volatility and win potential are then the final so-called “nail in the coffin”. I would rather prefer Red Tiger to make more use of their Megaways licence and grace us with new and modern slot creations that will have us lining up to spin the reels on. Time will tell, what they have up their sleeves in the coming months.

Update 9th July 2019: We have been able to play the slot in demo mode and thus updated the review accordingly. All details are now correct.
