Join the gang of four outlaws as they are about to rob the Money Train on the slot from Relax Gaming. The train will be stopping in a dusty town in the Wild West where you’ll have to pounce on the chance to win up to 20,000 times your bet. Stacked symbols, a Feature Buy option and a very unusual Money Cart bonus game will be your main props for the reel heist of a lifetime.

Slot Details

Money Train is a video slot with five reels, four rows and 40 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. During the bonus game, the game window can increase to six and seven reels. Your reel heist on desktop, tablet or mobile starts at 0.10 credits and peaks 50 credits per spin. The game is highly volatile with an RTP of 96.20, rising to 98% when the Feature Buy option is used.

While Relax Gaming has not always been known for elaborate graphics, they impressed with their later creations such as Temple Tumble Megaways and Caveman Bob. They’ve done an even better job on Money Train which they placed in a Western town so typical of the time when the railroads were progressing to the West of the continent. A train will pull into the station when you load the game, stopping a carriage in view that will hold the game window. The attention to detail is simply stunning. An upbeat Western soundtrack on an infinite loop completes a well-designed slot.

Open the game to find the card suits – clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades – carved from wooden pieces at the low end of the paytable, awarding 3x to 5x your bet for single five of a kind. They are followed by the four gang members – an outlaw girl in blue, a Mexican bandito in green, a native outlaw with battle stripes on his face and the leader of the gang, a moustached outlaw with a sunset background. Hit five on a line to win 8x to 20x your stake. All pay symbols can appear super stacked that can lead to full screens of matching symbols for payouts from 120x to 800x your bet.

Two crossed Winchester rifles marked by the word itself act as the wild symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols. An old-style money safe in purple colours is the scatter, appearing on reels one, three and five only.

Money Train Slot Features

The game has only one bonus feature with a mechanic with have not seen before, that will have you sitting in suspense every time it triggers as it can pay up to a massive 20,000 times your bet. Having so much potential in the bonus game means that the base game can be at times quite a balance drainer. The bonus round itself will also end often enough with a rather disappointing result but that can change in a heartbeat when the right symbols land.

You have two choices to trigger the Money Cart bonus game. You can wait for an organic trigger when scatters land anywhere on reels one, three and five in one spin or alternatively, you can activate the Buy Feature option for a one-time amount of 80x your bet, e.g. at 5 credits the instant trigger of the bonus game will cost you 400 credits.

The scenery changes to a night setting while the train leaves the station. A new train will arrive with the carriage carrying the grid for the bonus game with initially five reels and four rows. The three triggering scatters are transferred to the same position on the triggering spin and will unveil a bet multiplier ranging from 1x to 10x, which will be accumulated on a display to the right of the grid.

Money Train Bonus Game

The reels contain only tumbleweed symbols, purple safe scatters as well as five extra symbols that will have quite an impact on your potential winnings. The game will award an initial three spins with any money or extra symbol landing on a spin resetting the counter to three. All money symbols landing will be locked in place with a revealed bet multiplier

  • Purple Money Safe: Reveals a bet multiplier, usually in the 1x to 10x range
  • Payer – Outlaw Girl: Reveals a bet multiplier and adds it once to all other symbols in view
  • Persistent Payer – Gatling Gun: Reveals a bet multiplier and adds it to all other symbols in view for the current and all following spins. However, it does not increase its own multiplier.
  • Widener – Mexican Outlaw: Reveals a bet multiplier and throws a dynamite bundle to open one additional reel for each occurrence, increasing the grid for the bonus game
  • Collector – Native Outlaw: Reveals a bet multiplier and then collects once all visible multipliers values and adds them to its own value
  • Persistent Collector – Money Hat: Reveals a bet multiplier and then collects all visible values on the reels and add them to its own value at the end of the current and all following spins. The symbol does not collect its own value.
  • Tumbleweed: Does not carry a value and does not reset the spin counter.

The number of remaining spins is displayed on the left of the grid while the accumulated multiplier is shown on the right. The bonus game continues until you run out of spins or fill the entire grid with money symbols. The best rounds will be those where you land the Widener and the two persistent symbols. We scored anything from 25x to 768x the bet in our test runs, but you can expect the bonus game to be highly volatile.

Final Verdict

Well, this game took us by surprise as it is not only superbly designed but also comes with sky-high volatility and win potential. The base game can be a drag at times but the extremely suspenseful bonus game more than makes up for it. We do however recommend using the Feature Buy option with some caution as the winnings will not always cover the cost for purchasing the feature.
