Enter the world of the mighty wizard on the slot from Storm Gaming Technology. Magic Merlin Megaways will take you on a mystical reel journey with the well-known Megaways engine, cascading symbols, reactive wins, mystery symbols and a free spins round with unlimited retriggers and progressive multipliers that can lead to wins in excess of 10,000 times your bet or up to 250,000 credits, whichever is hit first.
Magic Merlin Megaways is a video slot with six reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. Your mystical reel journey on desktop or mobile starts at 0.20 credits and goes up to 100 credits per spin. The RTP of this medium to high variance game is set at 96.36%.
The number of ways from 324 to the maximum is randomly determined for every spin with the game engine selecting between two and seven pay symbols for reels one and six as well as two to six pay symbols for reels two to five. Additionally, the game has an extra reel at the top of the game window with four positions, extending from reel two to five, where more symbols appear on every spin.
Wins are paid for two to six adjacent symbols from left to right only. The symbols from a winning combination will start a chain reaction and disappear to make room for new symbols to drop into place. The spin sequence continues as long as a new winning combination occurs after a reaction.
The wizard’s chamber with shelves full of magic props, cauldrons and mystery books serves as the fitting background to the large Megaways game window. Merlin himself dominates on the reels as the top-paying symbol. As for the soundtrack, I wasn’t able to find the right words after my first test run but would call it a mix of flamboyant and enchanting tones.
Open the game to find the card royals from 10 through to A at the low end, awarding 0.8x to 1.75x your stake for a single six of a kind. They are followed by scrolls, magic staffs, potion bottles, enchanted orbs and Merlin himself. Hit six across the reels to win 2x to 50x your bet.
An icon marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, appearing in the horizontal reel only and substituting for all regular pay symbols. The magic book acts as the scatters while an icon with question marks is the mystery symbol.
Magic Merlin Megaways Slot Features
While Storm Gaming has not reinvented the wheel with their first-ever Megaways creation, you can expect solid gameplay, features and win potential associated with this type of slots. The fact that one of the founders is an ex-Blueprint executive might explain some similarities in the design, features and maximum win potential.
Mystery Cards can appear randomly on any reels after a spin in the base game and free spins. They will reveal a common winning symbol, including the top paying symbol. However, they cannot turn into scatter symbols. Keep an eye on the smouldering cauldron next to the game window as he will randomly replace low-value symbols on the horizontal extra reel with wilds to potentially create or increase a win.
Landing four magic book scatters in one spin sequence will trigger 12 free spins. Any additional scatter will add +5 free spins. During the feature, scatters appear as crystal balls in the horizontal reel only. Three or four in a free spin will award +5 and +10 free spins respectively, no limits.
The main attraction though in the free spins is the unlimited multiplier. It will start at x1 and increase by x1 after every winning reaction. Plus, the mystery cards can appear randomly on any reel during the free spins.
“Here we go again”… sang Whitesnake in 1987 in their re-recorded hit song that stormed the charts very much like what the Megaways slots have done in the casino playing charts. With Storm Gaming, we have the next contender hoping that the BTG licence for the game engine will propel them to new heights in the gaming community. While the studio is somewhat known in the UK, they are virtually newcomers on the world stage. They opted for a safe version which has nothing new or surprising to offer but still is a solid Megaways game. Time will tell if they can be more creative with their next scheduled releases Bar-X Megaways or Monsters of Rock Megaways, which should hit the casino lobbies in August and September 2019.
