The next European Championship is approaching fast and matching that speed are new football-themed slots appearing in the casino lobbies. Football Glory is the contribution from Yggdrasil Gaming, an action-packed slot on a 5×4 reel set with wild substitutions, two random features, a Glory Meter collectable free spins round and a free spins feature with extra modifiers that can lead to wins of up to 4,000 times your bet.
Football Glory is a video slot with five reels, four rows and 25 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can join the crowds in the stadium on desktop or mobile from 0.25 to 125 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 96.10%.
Loading the game will see you joining the crowds in a packed football stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the game or in this case, the play session. The reel set seems to be floating in the air and is dominated by four football players and championship cups. The design is not exactly top-notch and most certainly not in the same league as other Yggdrasil creations, it appears more like it was rushed for release.
The pay symbols start at the low end with plain card royals from 10 through to A, followed as expected by four rather grim-looking players in blue, green, red and yellow jerseys. The latter is the most lucrative with 2.5x your bet for a single five of a kind. A golden emblem marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular pay symbols while a trophy acts as the scatter.
Football Glory Slot Features
After the rather sobering visual impact of this Yggdrasil creation, our hope rests on a fast-paced gameplay with ample features that will make us join the roaring crowds with loud cheers. Well, there are quite a few, seven to be exact, the question is only whether they will be able to rescue the game from oblivion when it appears in the casino lobbies.
Core to raising the suspense level and win potential are two random features which can trigger at any time in the base game and free spins. Each will present you with five footballs from which you can pick one to reveal your prize. Choose wisely as there is no second chance.
- Silver Cup
- Base Game: Random coin win ranging from 2x to 40x your bet or 7 to 21 free spins
- In Free Spins: Random coin win from 2x to 40x your bet; +2, +3 or +4 extra free spins, one sticky wild reel, 1 or 2 sticky wilds
- Gold Cup
- Base Game: Random coin win ranging from 10x to 400x your bet; 7 to 21 free spins; All Star Free Spins, Glory Meter Boost
- In Free Spins: +2, +3 or +4 extra free spins, one sticky wild reel, 1 or 2 sticky wilds
While spinning the reels, keep an eye on the Glory Meter at the bottom of the game window. There are four meters, one for each player, which will gradually fill up when you land a winning combo with the respective player. Completing a meter will trigger 7 Free Spins with the triggering player in Super Star Mode (more to that shortly). The round cannot be retriggered but the Silver and Gold Cup features can activate.
Hitting three, four or five cup scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will trigger 7, 14 and 21 Free Spins respectively. Alternatively, they can be won in the two random features during the base game. Neither can be retriggered, but additional free spins can be collected from the Silver or Gold Cup features. Before the round starts, the game will randomly select one of four feature boosters.
- Sticky Wild: One sticky wild is placed in a random position
- Wild Reel: One reel is randomly turned into a wild reel for the duration of the feature
- Extra Cups: Five Silver or Gold Cups are added to the reels to increase the trigger frequency
- All Star Free Spins: All players are in Super Star Mode
During the feature, any player landing on a free spin will attempt to score a goal. If successful, he will turn into a sticky wild for the remainder of the round. In Super Star Mode, they will always score and subsequently convert to a sticky wild.
While the game is packed to the brim with features, modifiers and boosters, one has to question whether the graphics design and math teams were asleep. Usually, they create visual feasts but on this occasion, both the graphics and win potential are sloppy at best. Although we have yet to see any Yggdrasil game hitting its advertised maximum win, hence, that might be of secondary importance only. Nevertheless, the game looks entertaining to play thanks to the features and should be good for decent wins in the 100x to 500x range.
