Join the fabled detective in the search for missing precious stones on the slot from Yggdrasil Gaming. Holmes and the Stolen Stones is taking you on a chase through dark alleys in a quest to find shards and clues that will help you retrieve the stones and win one of five progressive jackpots. Shard collection, a Warehouse bonus game and a Jackpot free spins round can lead to life-changing wins.

Slot Details

Holmes and the Stolen Stones is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 20 fixed pay lines. Wins are awarded for three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right only. You can join the famous detective on desktop or mobile from 0.20 to 40 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an overall RTP of 96.80% that includes the jackpots and a hit rate of 25.4%.

A dark alleyway in the midst of the already then sprawling metropolis is in the background of the game window that is dominated by the pipe-smoking detective and his devoted assistant Mr Watson.  Five jackpot displays are placed on top of the reels, each showing the current value of the respective jackpot. A suspenseful and mysterious soundtrack rounds off the slot design.

The pay symbols start at the low end with the card suits – green clubs, blue diamonds, red hearts and granite spades – awarding 6.25x to 10x your bet for a single five of a kind. They are followed by four premiums – magnifying glass, notebook, Watson and Holmes. Hit five on a line to win 37.5x to 200x your stake. A keyhole is the bonus symbol while an icon marked with Free Spins acts as the scatter. The game does not have a wild symbol

Holmes and the Stolen Stones Slot Features

Naturally, the main aim of the game is to win the progressive jackpots, preferably the largest of the five available on this slot. Yggdrasil went to great length to build a storyline around the jackpot chase taking you through a bonus game and a free spins mode where ultimately the jackpots are in play.

Hitting three, four or five bonus symbols anywhere on the reels in one spin will trigger the Warehouse bonus game. Four or five bonus triggers will award wins of 1,000 and 10,000 coins. The game will lead you to a typical 19th-century warehouse with a stack of 18 wooden boxes. Hidden are coins wins of 20, 40, 100, 200 and 1,000 coins (1x to 50x your total bet), shards and one bomb. You can pick one box at the time until you reveal the bomb, which will end the bonus game. All coins wins are accumulated and paid while any unveiled shards are added to your collection.

Speaking of Shard Collection, keep an eye on the five displays on top of the game window as any shard landing on a reel will increase the meter by one. Shards won in the bonus game will also be added. The game will award 10 Free Spins once five shards are collected on any of the meters. Alternatively, you can trigger the free spins by landing three, four or five scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin. Four or five scatter triggers will award an additional 1,000 and 10,000 coins respectively. In both cases, the feature can be retriggered.

While all standard wins in the feature will be multiplied by x3, the focus is on collecting five diamonds of one colour to fill up the jackpot meters on top, which replace the shard meters for the duration of the round. Triggering the free spins after collecting 5 shards will see them combine into one diamond, which will be added to the jackpot meter on the respective reel and thus reduce the number of diamonds that need to be collected.

To win a jackpot, you will need to collect five diamonds of one colour and complete the respective meter before you run out of free spins. Worth noting is that each coloured diamond can land on its own reel only – blue one reel one, red on reel two, yellow on reel three, green on reel four and purple on reel five. All five jackpots are localized progressive jackpots, meaning they are specific for a casino or a casino group and thus can differ should you play at different sites. A total of 3.4% from each bet on the game is contributing to the jackpots. The minimum seed values are:

  • Reel 1 | Blue Jackpot: 40 credits
  • Reel 2 | Red Jackpot: 200 credits
  • Reel 3 | Yellow Jackpot: 600 credits
  • Reel 4 | Green Jackpot: 1,500 credits
  • Reel 5 | Purple Jackpot: 10,000 credits

There is no limit as to the amount the jackpots can grow before they are won. Once that happens, the displayed value is instantly paid while the respective jackpot is then reset to the seed value. The top jackpot reaches often high 5-figure and occasionally 6-figure sums.

Final Verdict

Holmes and the Stolen Stone is a well-crafted slot coming from Yggdrasil Gaming and would be already highly entertaining for the features and gameplay in itself. The five jackpots add another layer to the suspense and winning the top jackpot will be a big payday any time of the year.
