Interview with Rootz CEO Lasse Rantala – Caxino Casino

As Caxino Casino is officially opening its virtual doors to the worldwide gaming public, it presented us with a great opportunity to interview Rootz Limited CEO Lasse Rantala a few days before the launch. Questions, questions, questions. Who is he, what is the company striving for and what did they prepare to ensure that Caxino Casino stands out in the increasingly crowded iGaming market?

Hey Lasse!

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down with us for this interview. We hope that you, your family, friends and the entire Caxino team and their loved ones have been keeping well and healthy during this challenging time.

GMBLRS: You are the CEO of  Rootz, the parent company of Wildz and Caxino. Is the opening day exciting for you or rather stressful?

Lasse: “It will be the best day of the year, at least so far! These kinds  of days are very exciting indeed.”

GMBLRS: Same here, we were just as excited about two weeks ago when we heard that you are ready to launch Caxino in June! How exactly did Rootz start and what kind of goals do you have for the near future? We can see the casino brands being launched, but are there any other plans you could tell our readers about?

Lasse: “We saw that the casino market wasn’t mature and there were many things one could do to improve the customer experience. First, we focused on our proprietary platform which allows us to automise as much as possible thus giving the users what they want while limiting mistakes. The future is simple for us: we aim to improve our product and processes every day. Notably, German regulation is on the horizon and we are planning for that accordingly.”

GMBLRS: The gambling market has undergone major changes in recent years. Sweden switched to licenses in 2019 and just over a year later, we can see the first operators leaving the country. What do you think of regulations and is Rootz aiming to enter these tightly regulated markets such as Sweden and the UK?

Lasse: “Regulatory compliance can be tedious and time-consuming. It will be interesting to follow what happens in the different jurisdictions. Local regulations are putting a lot of stress on operators but I think iGaming overall benefits from a regulated environment. We will keep our future options open and evaluate the markets one-by-one constantly.”

GMBLRS: Germany has already been a significant market for Wildz. What do you think of the forthcoming proposals for gambling legislation in Germany, e.g. the maximum bets at one Euro?

Lasse: “Germany, as in many other countries, has the same fundamental challenges. When politicians and different interest groups negotiate with lobbyists in the mix, the outcome is many compromises. A one Euro max limit seems to me a bit artificial but I can understand the rationale. However, from a regulator’s point of view, channelisation is the most challenging task. If that can be solved then rest becomes easier. For example, the important player protection is not too difficult to technically implement or manage.”

GMBLRS: It’s so true that “channelization” is big or maybe the biggest question as we have seen in Sweden in the last 18 months. Some states in the US have started legalizing online gambling. Do you have any plans to make the jump to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean?

Lasse: “Not this year at least.”

GMBLRS: Let’s go back to Caxino’s launch, which is fast approaching. Less than a year ago, you launched Rootz’s first brand, Wildz.com. How would you compare these two brands?

Lasse: “While Wildz focused more on the experienced casino player while Caxino is focusing a bit more on the newer players. One good example is that on first deposit the minimum is one Euro, so there is a low threshold to join and test the brand out.”

GMBLRS: One Euro as minimum deposit sounds good to us here at GMBLRS. While we like to play at high stakes when the balance allows it, we are more or less low-rollers most of the times. The first brand is usually the most memorable, almost comparable to the “first-born child”, but surely you will have some expectations for the next brand that are setting the goals higher. What have you improved on Caxino to make it a popular alternative among Wildz players?

Lasse: “We have expanded our Machine Learning capabilities with Caxino so player rewards will be better-timed and more individually-focused. As with the €1 welcome bonus deposit at Caxino, we strive to make promotions more attainable for all level of players. One thing that Wildz players will appreciate about Caxino is its streamlined look and feel. While we paid particular attention to a clean UX for Wildz, Caxino is even more minimised when it comes to complementary text and multimedia elements. In a nutshell, Caxino is heavy on the fun, short on clutter.”

GMBLRS: Your game portfolio is already quite extensive and comprises most major and upcoming providers. Do you have plans to add more studios and which would they be?

Lasse: “We just added Push Gaming’s own integration and now we already launched their newest game, Joker Troupe! Swintt is just around the corner and we are always looking at new game providers to join in the mix.”

GMBLRS: Let’s turn to Rootz again, the engine behind the casinos. Have you been able to improve the product for the company’s operations as well, and how will it reflect in the gaming experience at Caxino?

Lasse: “Yes, tremendously! Recently we have been adding more granular segmentation and our CRM journeys now have a bigger variety of bonuses available. Each and every player on Caxino is sure to get the rewards they will enjoy!”

GMBLRS: Your first brand had a new “Spinback” functionality, where you can collect free spins from losing spins on the iconic Book of Dead slot, for example. Apparently, Caxino won’t get Spinback promotions, but instead a new concept called Spinbox. Can you tell us a little more about what Spinbox is all about?

Lasse: “Spinbox is something you get after every Level Up, similar to the Levelz game on Wildz. The mechanics are simple: first you fill up your Progress Bar, Level Up, and then you get a Spinbox. It’s Caxino’s way of rewarding players in real-time. You not only get free spins to the games you like, but you’ll receive extra spins when levelling up multiple times per day.”

GMBLRS: GMBLRS always is first and foremost a player community where we love to share the joy and goodies with all members and readers. For example, we have our own loyalty program where members can earn gold coins and exchange them for cash. Would the Caxino team be interested in contributing something special to our community to celebrate the grand opening?

Lasse: “Of course. Let’s talk this over in coming days. Caxino is always something more and we are happy to work with guys like you!”

Great! We will definitely publish this immediately on our GMBLRS message board to inform our members and readers. Thank you once again for taking the time to answer our questions. We look forward to the launch of Caxino and wish you not only success but a happy summer to the entire Rootz team!
