Get ready for an encounter with androids and cyborgs in a distant sci-fi world on the slot from Kalamba Games. Powered by Relax Gaming and built on the Megaways engine from Big Time Gaming, it will take you on a quest through a futuristic city with a dynamic reel mechanic, three personal progressive jackpots, a Hyper Bonus buy option as well as a Free Spins round with symbol collection for wins of up to 26,000x your stake.
Machina Megaways is a video slot with six reels, six rows and up to 46,656 ways to win. Using the BTG Megaways engine under a licensing deal signed in 2018, the game will randomly select two to six symbols on each reel for every spin, creating anything from 64 to 46,656 ways to win. Pays are then awarded for adjacent symbols from left to right only.
You can play the slot on mobile and desktop from 0.60 to 35.00 credits. The default RTP of this high variance game is set at 96.56%. Using the Hyper Bonus Buy will increase it up to 97.42%. Autoplay will let you choose 10 to 100 consecutive spins to be played without interruption.
A futuristic city reminiscent of the Blade Runner hit movie and held in blue and purple neon colours with flying machines buzzing through the screen is the fitting background for the game window. Four human warriors are populating the reels that will be transformed into the cyborg in the free spins round. A generic but suspenseful soundtrack accompanies the usual reel sounds.
All symbols, except the wild, scatter and circuit board symbols can appear stacked on any spin in the base game and free spins. The low end starts with the usual card royals from 9 to A, continuing on the high level with two female human warriors in pink and turquoise colours and two male human warriors in blue and purple colours. The top paying symbol is the cyborg Machina.
Wild is a gold-plated circuit board, substituting for all symbols except scatters and circuit board accumulation symbols. The scatters are tiles with what looks like a meteor hit with the word bonus across. The circuit board symbols only appear during the free spins and contribute to the accumulation counters.
Personalized Progressive Jackpot
Three progressive jackpots – Silver, Gold, Platinum – are displayed on the left of the game window. The seed value is set at 20x 50x and 1,000x your total bet. These are personalized jackpots specific for each player and each casino account with the balances stored when the game is closed. Roughly 3% of each bet contribute to the jackpots – 1.66% to Silver, 0.34% to Gold and 1% to Platinum.
To win one of the jackpots, players need to hit a number of Machina symbols on a spin in the base game or free spins. They do not have to necessarily land in a winning combination. A total of 10, 12 and 16 symbols are needed to win the Silver, Gold and Platinum Jackpot respectively. Any line wins landing on the same spin are added to the jackpot amount.
Hyper Bonus Buy Explained
Lately, we are seeing an increasing number of slots being released with a feature buy option that will take players directly into the free spins round. Kalamba Games is taking that up one level by offering no less than four different options for a defined amount. Each will slightly increase the overall RTP of the game.
- Level 1: 52.08x bet – triggers 10 free spins with 97.20% RTP
- Level 2: 89.58x bet – triggers 12 free spins with 97.27% RTP
- Level 3: 183.33x bet – triggers 15 free spins with 97.32% RTP
- Level 4: 337.08x bet – triggers 18 free spins with 97.42% RTP
The Machina Free Spins Feature
Hitting three, four, five or six scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will trigger 10, 12, 15 or 18 free spins respectively, which cannot be retriggered. Additionally, coins wins ranging from 2x to 15x bet are awarded. Alternatively, the round can be triggered via the Hyper Bonus Buy feature.
There are no extra multipliers in the free spins but the round has a symbol accumulation feature that will gradually transform the high-value symbols into Machina symbols, awarding +2 extra spin on each level. For each level, players need to collect four or five circuit board symbols which will be stored in the progress bar on the right of the game window.
- Total four symbols – all pink female warrior symbols are transformed into Machina symbols and +2 free spins
- Total eight symbols – all blue male warrior symbols are transformed into Machina symbols and +2 free spins
- Total 13 symbols – all turquoise female warrior symbols are transformed into Machina symbols and +2 free spins
- Total 18 symbols – all purple male warrior symbols are transformed into Machina symbols and +2 free spins
- Every further four symbols – awards +2 free spins only
The Megaways frenzy has the casino community firmly in its grip. With now six game developers having signed licensing agreements with Big Time Gaming, we can expect even more titles to be launched in 2019, which could easily lead to an oversaturation of such games.
Kalamba Games has developed an interesting concept around the Megaways engine that focusses on the three jackpots as well as the symbol transformation in the free spins round. The cost for the top level on the Hyper Bonus Buy table raises though some eyebrows. To fork out 337x the bet for a single free spins round sounds out of reach for most players, but those who do will get to play a bonus round that can pack quite a punch when most symbols are transformed early on.
