Do not be fooled by a simplistic design, the lack of random or bonus features on Reactor as with all Red Tiger slots there is more than meets the eye. With nuclear volatility, a pay-both-ways mechanic, respins with three reel modifiers and one win multiplier, this futuristic-looking game packs a powerful punch that can lead to wins of up to 5,000 times your bet.

Slot Details

Reactor is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 20 fixed pay lines. Spinning the reels of this space-age game on mobile or desktop starts at 0.20 credits and peaks at 100 credits. It is a highly volatile game with an RTP of 96.02%. AutoPlay is a function where players can choose anything from 10 to 100 consecutive spins with a range of options as to when the run should stop.

The design of Reactor is simplistically stunning. Open the slot to find yourself in a sci-fi world with a frameless game window and arc reactors on each side, which will dramatically discharge landing batteries to apply the reel modifiers. The reactors are connected to the display showing the activated reel modifiers, initiating some intense lightning strikes the soon the triggering batteries appear on the reels. A catchy electronic music tune serves as a fitting soundtrack and is only interrupted by futuristic game sounds on winning spins.

The simplicity continues on the paytable with purple, red, yellow and green crystals at the low end as well as four futuristic robotic parts in matching colours to the crystals at the high end. A ball of electric energy is the wild and top-paying symbol, substituting for all regular symbols. Lining up five matching symbols on a pay line awards wins from 1.5 to 25x the bet. A charged battery is the bonus symbol with just one needed to trigger the first reaction.

Pay-Both-Ways Mechanic Explained

Usually, slots pay for winning combination of minimum three matching symbols, starting from the left reel. Reactor is different as it will pay wins both ways, from left to right and from right to left. One exception applies though as most slots, wins for a five of a kind are paid only one way, which is true for Reactor as well.

The Battery Respins and Reel Modifiers

More simplicity awaits on Reactor in the base game. However, it all changes dramatically when one to five charged batteries lands on the reels in a spin. They trigger one respin with up to four reel modifiers and a win multiplier, impressively applied by the two reactors on each side of the game window. The number of extras is correspondent to the number of batteries triggering the feature. Potential wins on the triggering spin are paid before the respin. Multiple modifiers will be applied successively on the same respin.

  • One battery – no modifier: a simple respin is awarded
  • Two batteries – Symbol Swap: the reactors transform a random number of symbols into higher value symbols, providing a better chance to score a win.
  • Three batteries – Symbol Swap, Random Wilds: in addition to swapping symbols, a random number of symbols are turned into a wild symbol
  • Four batteries – Symbol Swap, Random Wilds, Mega Wild: in addition to swapping symbols, random wild transformation, a mega 2×2 or 3×3 wild is dragged into a random position on the reels.
  • Five batteries – Symbol Swap, Random Wilds, Mega Wild, Random Multiplier: The final blast where all modifiers are added on the respin plus a random win multiplier from x2 to x10 is applied to the total winnings from the respin.

It won’t happen too often to have five batteries landing on the same spin, but brace for an explosive show when they do. We scored easily wins in excess of 500x our bet on each occasion. The overall maximum win in a single spin peaks at 5,000x the stake when the entire screen is filled with wild symbols and the last reaction unveils an x10 multiplier.

Final Verdict

Reactor is the perfect example that we don’t need multiple random and bonus features on a slot to be well entertained and stand a chance to hit huge wins. Plus, the batteries seem to land rather frequently, keeping players in suspense at all times, while the ultimate trigger with five batteries will be the pitch to start celebrating a mega win. We must issue though some caution as this game comes with nuclear volatility that can lead to long dry spells before hitting big wins. Certainly not a slot for the fainthearted but with huge win potential for those daring enough to take on the beast.
