Hypernova Radial Reels is a video slot in a circular shape with three rings, each divided into 12 segments. The 12 pay lines start on the outer ring and run diametrically towards the other end (more to that shortly). Core to the gameplay is the Radial Reels mechanic consisting of a disc-shaped grid with three rings and 12 pay lines. The outer and inner rings spin clockwise while the middle ring does it anti-clockwise. Each ring is divided into 12 segments and lining up three to six symbols starting from the outer ring results in a winning combination.

At the start of a spin sequence, symbols appear first on the inner ring, followed by the middle and lastly the outer.  All symbols from a winning combo will vaporize before the rings shift in their respective direction until there are no more gaps between them and new symbols cascade into the empty spaces (Megaways-style). The process is repeated until no new winning combinations occur after a cascade. All wins are accumulated and paid before the next spin starts.

Hitting three to six scatters on a line will trigger 4 Free Spins as well as awarding a coin win from 2x to 50x your total stake. Multiple triggers are possible if minimum three scatters appear on more than one pay line. Each round is then played consecutively.

Well, this announcement came as a surprise as ReelPlay managed to keep the details of their latest mechanic close to their chest up to a week before the official release. A few game studios tried their luck with circular grids in the past and none seems to have had a significant impact with players. Question will be whether it will be different this time.

Hypernova Radial Reels certainly does have plenty of reasons to play for considering the maximum win potential of 25,000 times your bet. I tested it for hours to see whether I could warm up to the concept and quite liked it if I am honest. Seeing the multiplier climb to the maximum is, although it does not happen often, a suspenseful moment time and again, simply because any win with a wild will instantly turn into a big win.
