Magic Merlin Spellbound

Marvel at Merlin’s sorcery by the light of his crackling fire on the slot from Storm Gaming Technology. Magic Merlin Spellbound will take you into an enchanted world with random modifiers, a bonus game with fixed jackpots and four free spins modes that can lead to wins of up to 2,500 times your bet.

Slot Details

Magic Merlin Spellbound is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 20 fixed pay lines. It will increase to a 5×4 format and 1,024 ways in one of the four features. Wins are paid for two to five matching symbols on a line or adjacent reels from left to right only. You can enter Merlin’s world on desktop or mobile from 0.20 to 100 credits per spin. The game has medium volatility with an RTP of 96.11%.

Following up on Magic Merlin Megaways, the wizard is inviting us for a second visit to his chamber with shelves filled with magic props, cauldrons and mystery books. Merlin still dominates on the reels as the top-paying regular symbol. The reels are set in front of his fireplace with crackling flames in the background. An enchanted soundtrack complements the usual reel noises and win count fanfares.

The pay symbols start at the low end with the card royals from 10 through to A, awarding 5x to 10x your bet for a single five of a kind. They are followed by scrolls, potion vials, crystal balls and Merlin himself. Hit five across the reels to win 12.5x to 20x your stake.

An intricate icon marked with the word itself is the wild symbol, substituting for all regular symbols. It is also the top payer with 25x your stake when five land in view. Merlin’s magic book acts as the scatter.

Magic Merlin Spellbound Slot Features

It looks like the folks at Storm Gaming HQ thought there is still enough life left in the wizard theme and gave us after Magic Merlin Megaways another creation featuring the sorcerer. It comes packed with random features, free spins with modifiers and a bonus game where four fixed jackpots are up for grabs.

First in line are the Mystery Cards as they can appear randomly on any reels after a spin in the base game and free spins. They will reveal a common symbol to turn the spin into a win. However, they cannot turn into scatter symbols.

Merlin will be spreading wilds in two random features to add wilds to the reels. Up to three reels will turn wild when he appears in a puff of green smoke or add up to 10 random single wilds should pink smoke spread around him. But beware as he might appear for a teaser only and disappear again without unleashing his magic.

Any wild symbol landing on a spin can tingle the cauldrons at the top and randomly trigger the Pots pick&click bonus game. The symbols are removed from the reels and replaced with trapdoors. Your aim is to make your way from the left to right by opening one door on each reel. Revealing a green arrow will advance you to the next reel, each having a pot at the top with increasing value. You will win the pot for the reel you reach during the game. The pots are from left to right Flight at 50x bet, Heroism at 100x bet, Invisible at 200x bet, Haste at 300x bet and Rage at 500x bet. Only one pot will be awarded in a single bonus game.

Hitting magic book scatters anywhere on reels one, three and five in one spin will trigger 10 Free Spins which cannot be retriggered. Before the round starts, Merlin will appear to grant you one of four modifiers that will be active throughout the round.

  • Column Wilds: Reel one and five will turn into sticky stacked wilds for the duration of the feature.
  • Royal Removal: One of the royals is removed from the reels on every second spin.
  • Wild Multiplier: Any win containing wilds will benefit from a multiplier equal to the number of wilds in the combo.
  • Reel Expansion: The format increases from 5×3 to 5×4 with 1,024 ways to win for the duration of the feature.

Final Verdict

Not sure whether this creation was designed to be an upgrade or a climbdown to Magic Merlin Megaways. It is actually in a completely different league since it is using the standard 5×3 reel set only. Nevertheless, they packed it with ample features and chances to hit big wins. Might be a good option when you are looking for a break from Megaways yet want to stay with the wizard theme.
