Travel back to the middle ages on the slot from Yggdrasil Gaming and follow the Swiss hero marksman Wilhelm Tell on five reels. According to legend and numerous tales he resisted the orders of the tyrannic reeve Albrecht Gessler and was sentenced to death together with hit son Walter. To save their lives, he then famously shot with his crossbow an apple off the head of his son. This led in the 14th century to an open rebellion and ultimately to the formation of the Switzerland we know today.

Watch history unfold on the Wilhelm Tell slot with expanding wilds and three types of free spins with increasing volatility and multipliers of up to x50 that can lead to wins of up to 7,500x your bet.

Slot Details

Wilhelm Tell is a video slot with five reels, three rows and 20 fixed pay lines. Pays are awarded for matching symbols on a line from left to right only. Your encounter with the hero marksman on desktop, mobile or tablet will cost you from 0.20 to 100 credits per spin. The high variance game has a generous RTP of 97.00%.

Naturally, you will find a serene country scene from the Swiss mountains as the backdrop of a game window in the form of a typical log cabin. Lush greenery, a small mountain village, distant snow-covered mountain peaks and a blue sky depict the perfect tranquil scenery that many of us assimilate with Switzerland. Soldiers, the tyrannic reeve, Wilhelm Tell and his son Walter feature prominently on the reels. Just as fittingly is the classical soundtrack that is only interrupted by reel and win count noises.

Expecting a full set of typical Swiss-inspired icons, we were surprised to see the card suits – clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades – at the low end. Pays range from 1x to 2.5x your bet. They are followed by a Swiss soldier, Wilhelm Tell and the reeve Albrecht Gessler on the high level. Hit five on a line to win 5x to 7.5x your stake.

A terrified-looking Walter standing tied to a tree with an apple on his head is the expanding wild on the game, nudging into full view when he lands in part only and if he improves a winning combination. Scatters are an intricate tile with two crossbows and marked with ‘Free Spin’.

Wilhelm Tell Slot Features

Other than the expanding wild, Yggdrasil gave the slot only one bonus feature which is not the usual from this provider. However, it can pack quite a punch and lead to a win of up to 7,500x your stake in a single free spin. Three to five scatters anywhere on the reels in one spin will trigger the free spin selector. Additionally, you will be awarded with a coin win of 2x, 20x and 500x the total stake for three, four and five scatters respectively.

The game will lead to a second screen displaying three options for the free spins round, each with an increasing level of volatility. You are free to make one pick on every trigger to select your favourite type of free spins.

  • Medium Volatility: 10 free spins with an x5 multiplier
  • High Volatility: 5 free spins with an x10 multiplier
  • Very High Volatility: 1 free spin with an x50 multiplier

Final Verdict

The tales around Wilhelm Tell are today a firm part of the Swiss heritage. The hero is honoured with statues, museums and commemorative sites spread around the region where he famously not only shot the apple from his son’s head but later also assassinated the tyrannic reeve, encouraging the people to rebel against the establishment.

The slot itself doesn’t feel that heroic, to be honest. Whilst it is designed to the high standard we know from Yggdrasil, the gameplay is neither very engaging nor particularly suspenseful. We picked a few times the free spin option with the x50 multiplier and scored quite well, although nowhere close to the maximum win. In general, I would recommend taking the middle choice of five free spins with an x10 multiplier.
